Luxury Colombian rum producer Dictador has announced a new release in its admired 2 Masters series – Dictador 2 Masters Carlos I.
Dictador 2 Masters Carlos I is the result of a partnership with the Osborne Group and the latest release in the series of limited-edition, ultra-premium rums, created by master Dictador blender, Hernan Parra, and Carlos I’s former sherry and brandy blender, Ignacio Lozano.
This release saw a 1980 vintage Dictador rum handed to the Osborne Group, one of the oldest and most prestigious producers of sherry wines and spirits in Spain. The vintage liquid is aged in the acclaimed Carlos I, Brandy de Jerez casks, averaging 50-60 years of age. These casks housed the finest Oloroso and Amontillado sherries for more than 20 years, giving Carlos I its unique flavour. The result is a rare edition of 41-year-old Colombian rum which encompasses Mediterranean and nutty aromas such as orange peel, wicker, aged wine, old oak, apricot and plum, with a fresh finish.
On the collaboration, Lozano said: “I am truly passionate about the ageing process of brandy and fine brown spirits, so it is a great pleasure to be a part of the 2 Masters project with Dictador. It’s a challenge to align notes of sherry, brandy and rum, but I feel this has been mastered with Carlos I, exceeding all expectations.”
Parra added: “In the depths of the cellars with over 250 years of history, this liquid has developed a truly unique and inimitable personality. A direct reflection of what 2 Masters is about and a true pleasure to release.”
With the 2 Masters series, Parra has entrusted a portion of his vintage Dictador rums to a select group of prestigious wine and spirit producers worldwide to finish the Dictador blends as they wish. Previous partners on the project include Royal Tokaj, Hardy Cognac, Glenfarclas Distillery, Champagne Leclerc Briant and Labelle Armagnac.
Only 700 bottles of the Dictador 2 Masters Carlos I will be available for a price of €1,200. To protect the authenticity of its products, Dictador has created a robust cryptographic security system in its labels; they contain 11 protective layers, gold paint with UV glowing protection, microtext and typographical numbering.
