Many sports events worldwide act as private jet magnets on a yearly basis, like the Formula One and the Super Bowl, but the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar is expected to generate a record demand.

One of the reasons for this demand is the venue, a country where private aviation and VIP travel have an important share of the local market. The proximity to Europe also helps the cause, with 13 countries from the continent participating in the tournament. While availability just roughly one month removed from the World Cup might be a concern, the right private jet aircraft can fly non-stop from London to the Hamad International Airport in Doha in less than seven hours.

Martin Baldoma Jones, CEO of Welojets, a global air mobility company with offices in Miami, Buenos Aires and Madrid, said: “While the tournament is just weeks away, there is always time to book a flight. In fact, during previous world cups, we have received quote inquiries just days ahead of matches – as fans watched their national squad advance to the final rounds, they didn’t hesitate to charter a flight and experience the live action.

“We are expecting an influx of demand during the round of 16, when fans go above and beyond to root for their teams. That unparalleled flexibility is only possible with private aviation.”

After arriving in Doha and avoiding every lengthy commercial air checkpoint, passengers are only a 20-minute drive from the Khalifa International Stadium, expected to host eight World Cup matches, with England, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, and Croatia among those national squads scheduled to take the pitch.

Prices and types of private jets

“Avoiding the hassle and chaos of crowded airports is by far the main driver of private jet bookings, especially during a World Cup, where thousands of football fans are expected to plan a trip. The previous takes special prominence when visiting a small country with only one international airport – ultimately, private travel is the way to go,” added Baldoma Jones.

While prices for a private jet flight vary mainly depending on the aircraft and route, chartering a small jet like the Phenom 300 for up to eight passengers on the Madrid to Doha route has an approximate price per leg of EUR 45,000. Aboard a Citation CJ2 jet for six passengers, the price is EUR 47,000 for the entire aircraft. For the same route on a midsized jet like the Hawker 900XP, the amount increases to EUR 61,000 per leg.

For another highly booked route, London to Doha, the price per leg on a midsized Citation XLS, the most popular private aircraft in Europe, is EUR 49,800. On a Learjet 75 the flight can cost approximately EUR 53,000 and on the long-range Legacy 650 that price elevates to EUR 57,100. The latter can seat up to 13 passengers and offers unique comfort, cabin space and inflight amenities.

Private charter brokers like Welojets will go above and beyond to accommodate to every specific travel need, nevertheless, they usually recommend planning a flight with at least two to three weeks ahead of the desired departure date. Time is running out quickly and aircraft availability is decreasing on a weekly basis due to all the variables previously exposed. The time is now to charter your next private jet flight to Qatar, the first Middle Eastern country to host the FIFA World Cup.
