Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or an extended stay in London, sometimes, you just need your own space, and while there’s a lot to be said for the opulence of a five-star hotel, they don’t always provide you with the privacy and quiet atmosphere you need to relax, unwind, or – if it’s a business trip – get some all-important work done.

The alternative? Booking out a private luxury apartment for the duration of your stay instead, where you can enjoy your day at your own pace, take some quiet time or entertain guests, in a space that feels like your own.

And the plush Cheval Three Quays apartments, on the north bank of the River Thames, is the perfect pick, offering a prime location as well as a host of high-end facilities and services to ensure your stay goes smoothly.

These large, secure, design-led furnished apartments belong to one of several developments within the Cheval Collection, where five-star service and a personal touch come as standard. There are eight Cheval Residences and one Maison in London, as well as three additional Cheval Residences in Edinburgh and a Cheval Maison in Dubai. In total, Cheval Collection operates over 803 apartments in the three cities, each exemplifying the same high standards the brand has become known for.

I recently had the pleasure of checking in at Cheval Three Quays, and found it was everything I needed for a comfortable stay in the city and more.

Cheval Three Quays boasts 159 modern luxury apartments available for stays of all lengths, with designs ranging from thoughtfully designed studio and open plan apartments to impressive penthouses offering breath-taking views down over some of the capital’s most iconic landmarks from their sizable balconies and through their floor-to-ceiling windows.

There’s a choice of one and two-bedroom apartments, spread across nine floors, each spacious and bathed in plenty of natural light. Back in the main living area, and you can relax on a sumptuous L-shaped sofa whilst watching the flat-screen TV, or make use of the binoculars provided to take a closer look at those views and see if you can spot any more major attractions from the comfort of your luxury digs.

In the dining area, you’ll find a wine fridge and a luxury welcome hamper from Abel and Cole. If you fancy cooking rather than eating out at one of the city’s many restaurants, then there’s even a cookbook of the month provided to give you some inspiration.

Style and character

The décor at Cheval Three Quays is decidedly modern, and exudes a stylish and minimalistic feel

The décor at Cheval Three Quays is decidedly modern, and exudes a stylish and minimalistic feel. Think white, lacquered surfaces, oak effect flooring and, of course, those sophisticated soft furnishings.

Down in the foyer, guests are welcomed by a grand lobby where a dramatic chandelier hangs overhead, and an elegant water feature takes centre-stage. Roman-inspired columns and mosaic flooring and walls adorned with historic photos surround a plush black granite welcome desk, where 24-hour service is provided to ensure your needs are always met, however big or small they happen to be.

Service and facilities

Whether you’re staying for just one night, or for months at a time, you can expect five-star service and the personal touch

On that note, there’s also a cleaning and laundry service and a 24-hour concierge team on hand to ensure every aspect of your stay runs smoothly – and to help you out with everything from transport arrangements to dinner reservations and theatre tickets. If you fancy a night in and aren’t in the mood for cooking, then you can make use of room service and choose from a vast selection of London restaurants, depending on what type of cuisine you fancy, and have it delivered to your door.

Facilities wise, there’s a gym downstairs if you’re eager to keep up your fitness routine during your stay, and although not huge, it’s more than sufficient to get that all-important workout in.

Whilst you won’t find an on-site restaurant or bar, in London you’re never far from a huge selection of dining options – from Japanese and Mexican to Ethiopian and Peruvian – in fact, you’ll likely find cuisine from just about every corner of the globe in easy reach and, of course, a great selection of Michelin-starred fine-dining hot spots to choose from, too.

Just next door, you’ll find stylish casual dining spot The Coppa Club, where you can eat or drink on the riverside terrace or in a private igloo, for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. St Katharine Docks is also just a few minutes’ walk away, where you’ll find Mexican delights at Chimichurris, and a decadent Romanian menu at Restaurant Acasa, as well as a variety of other options.

As mentioned, room service is available, and can all be requested via the Cheval app for minimal effort on your part. If you’d rather stay in but don’t fancy ordering takeaway, then the concierge service can arrange a private chef to come and do the hard work for you – whether you’re planning a quiet meal alone or will be entertaining colleagues, friends or other guests.
