Hotel Review: London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square

By Natasha Heard   |

London is famous for many things including its culture, shopping, monuments and eateries and where better to rest your weary head at the end of a long day indulging in these activities than a five star hotel bang in the centre of town. London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square in the capital’s upmarket Mayfair district, has wonderful views over the square, top class facilities, and is a stone’s throw from the centre of Oxford Street.

Ideally situated in Mayfair, a short distance from Hyde Park and the vibrant West End, the hotel redefines elegant living in the heart of the city

I visited one Saturday evening and was thrilled to be staying one of the hotel’s spacious suites. With its contemporary design, modern features and delightful view of the park from the 6th floor, I was certainly well placed for my night’s stay. Cream angular sofas and dining chairs were offset with shiny black furniture, while white walls offered plenty of light reflection around the room. The black framed four poster bed, with dark green headboard, was large and offered a comfortable night’s sleep while a large dining table, desk and side table and chairs were there should I have required them. The beige marble bathroom housed a jet bath, bidet and a nice black marble sink feature with plenty of mirrors and light. The hallway between the bedroom and the lounge housed a large closet space containing all the extras I could need from tea making equipment to an ironing board. The suite also offered a coffee machine and two large flat screen TVs while a sleep package was left on the table for me.

The sleep package consists of ‘The Sleep Book’ by Dr Guy Meadows – a guide on how to sleep well every night, Pukka night time tea, L’Occitane lavender shower gel and pillow spray and a Philip Stein sleep bracelet, which harnesses Natural Frequency Technology to aid more restful sleep. I wouldn’t say I was an insomniac but I certainly sometimes have restless night’s sleeps and every time I have worn the watch since I have slept well but that could very well be other factors. Either way the hotel is determined that you get the best out of your stay and the main thing is, of course, a good night’s sleep.

Enjoy a home away from home in London’s West End

Formerly a grand town house, the large hotel is a hub of luxury giving its guests fine dining options, a 1920s inspired bar, a 24 hour fitness centre, event spaces and a games room. The well equipped fitness centre holds a large range of cardio equipment and weights machines, while ‘The Den’ games room houses a pool table, air hockey and table football. The ‘Westminster Ballroom’ and ‘Mayfair Suite ‘can be used for a range of events including weddings, business meetings, private dinners and awards dinners, to name a few. ‘The Luggage Room’ is the resident cocktail bar and is inspired by the decadence of the twenties. The plush bar offers drinks that were enjoyed during the era and is decked out with low, dark leather chairs on which to sip a speciality drink.

Gordon Ramsay’s award winning Maze restaurant is the perfect place to treat yourself to French and Asian inspired smaller dishes, while Maze Bar offers an extensive wine list and classic cocktails in a stylish and contemporary setting. Breakfast is served in Maze Grill, which is a restaurant of its own drawing inspiration from the steakhouses of Manhattan. I’ve enjoyed many delicious lunches here previously and the steak is just fantastic while the desserts have been some of my favourites to date. On this occasion I enjoyed a simple breakfast of eggs with some continental items including a Danish pastry, cheese and bread. The restaurant is decorated in a chic and contemporary style as is the rest of the hotel, Maze and Maze Bar. Photographs of London grace the walls while dark wood tables, olive green chairs and wood flooring offer a comfortable and stylish setting to enjoy some delicious food.
