In an era where mass production often trumps quality, the launch of Alessandro Gasparini’s eponymous luxury Italian men’s footwear brand is a breath of fresh air for discerning gentlemen who value craftsmanship and individuality. These sumptuous suede creations are meticulously crafted to perfection, embodying the essence of Italian craftsmanship and reflecting Alessandro’s dedication to quality and timeless style.
The launch of Alessandro Gasparini is not just about offering elegant footwear options; it is also about championing individuality, preserving the heritage of Italian craftsmanship, and making a stand against mass production.
We sat down with Alessandro to find out a little more about the story behind his super refined brand and what he has planned for the future.
Can you tell me a bit about your background and how you came to launch your own footwear brand?
I have always been involved in the product industry, particularly in the field of footwear and accessories. Currently, I am part of the product team for a well-known luxury fashion brand. Many companies follow the ‘fast fashion’ business model which, in my opinion, is detrimental to the environment and adds little value to the products. Because of this, I made the decision to establish my own brand with the aim of creating timeless and exquisitely crafted footwear that will endure. Additionally, my brand pays tribute to my native Italy, famous for its leather goods and distinctive culture.
Can you provide a bit more information about the artisans and materials that you work with for Alessandro Gasparini?
Our footwear is meticulously crafted in the North of Italy, near Milan. It is a family-run business that has been passed down from generations, which ensures the production of handmade footwear with a focus on impeccable quality and exceptional detailing.
To create our shoes, we meticulously source the finest soft suede from the best Italian tanneries, primarily located in Tuscany, the very same tanneries often favoured by other renowned luxury brands. This careful selection of materials guarantees that our footwear meets the highest standards of excellence.
With a legacy rooted in traditional craftsmanship, our shoes embody a perfect blend of old-world techniques and contemporary design sensibilities. We take great pride in creating footwear that is not only stylish and elegant, but also offers superior comfort and durability.
Can you recommend your top three destinations in Italy for our readers and why?
Italy is home to some of the most amazing destinations in the world, and three of the absolute best and my favourite include Florence, Como, and Lecce. Florence, located in the heart of Tuscany, is known for its rich history, magnificent architecture, and world-class art. The city is a treasure trove of cultural gems, with iconic attractions such as the magnificent Duomo, the Uffizi Gallery, and the Ponte Vecchio.
Como, on the other hand, offers a breath-taking setting nestled amid the spectacular Italian Alps. The picturesque Lake Como is the star attraction, surrounded by elegant villas, charming towns, and lush gardens. Visitors can take boat trips, explore the narrow cobblestone streets of Como town, or simply soak in the beauty of the surroundings.
Lastly, Lecce, often referred to as the ‘Florence of the South’, is a hidden gem in the region of Puglia. Renowned for its stunning Baroque architecture, Lecce boasts ornate churches, palaces, and piazzas that showcase the city’s cultural and artistic flair. Visitors can wander through the narrow streets, savour local cuisine, and admire the distinctive limestone buildings that give Lecce its unique charm. Whether you’re a history buff, a nature lover, or a fan of art and culture, Florence, Como, and Lecce will leave you spellbound with their beauty and allure!
How would you describe your ideal weekend?
My ideal weekend would start with waking up early in the morning and enjoying an espresso in the peaceful and serene Italian countryside. Physical exercise is not just a hobby for me, it’s a passion. It helps me destress and recharge after a hectic week. What I love most is spending quality time with my loved ones over a leisurely long lunch or dinner, while relishing delicious food and wine and engaging in meaningful conversations. I also enjoy taking solitary walks and appreciating the beauty of the surrounding landscapes and architecture.
Where are your favourite places to shop?
I enjoy shopping at small, independent boutiques in various cities. In London, I particularly like Drake’s London in Savile Row for its dress-down classic English style. Adret in Clifford Street offers a more minimalistic approach, drawing inspiration from casual classic looks and summer wear in South Asia. They offer unique styles with oversized cuts and distinct fabrics. Finally, Santamaria Shirtmakers is where I have my bespoke shirts made.
In Paris, I’m fond of Husbands Paris for their modern interpretation of classic styles, with a touch of inspiration from ’70s jackets. In Italy, I appreciate De Petrillo from Naples for their relaxed approach and classic pieces with excellent cuts. Additionally, I like Marinella for their high-quality ties and scarves.
Do you plan to introduce any new styles or any other leather goods in the future?
I would like to introduce a new style of loafer as I believe loafers are the most versatile. In the future, I would, of course, like to expand to other styles, such as boots, for example. My goal is to broaden our product range to include clothing and accessories, with an emphasis on organic growth and listening to customer feedback.
I don’t believe in following seasonal trends, and I want to release our products when they are perfectly crafted, using the finest materials and made by skilled artisans in limited quantities. I don’t believe that a high-quality and timeless product should be discounted. Offering discounts would devalue the centuries of heritage, expertise, traditions, and culture that go into making our products.
