Spa hotel review: Moddershall Oaks, the perfect Staffordshire escape

With its world-class indoor and outdoor spa facilities and a dedicated wellness centre, this spa hotel offers the perfect retreat for couples and friends seeking a luxurious escape.

Moddershall Oaks is an award-winning spa nestled within 72 acres of serene Staffordshire countryside. With its world-class indoor and outdoor spa facilities and a dedicated wellness centre, it offers the perfect retreat for couples and friends seeking a luxurious escape. The spa offers a variety of options, including indulgent spa days, relaxing spa evenings, and rejuvenating overnight breaks.

I was lucky enough to enjoy an overnight stay, allowing my guest and I to take full advantage of the facilities from the moment we checked in. The front-of-house team was as glamorous as they were attentive, providing us with a warm welcome and a personal tour of the spa. This helped us get acquainted with the spaces and decide where to unwind first.

The facilities

All guests are welcomed with a refreshing welcome drink as you fill in your health forms. It also offers the perfect opportunity to unwind and take in the stunning outdoor facilities. Highlights include a heated jet pool, an outdoor sauna with breath-taking views of the 72 acres, and a relaxation room where it’s almost impossible not to drift off. The crowning feature is our luxurious 25-square-metre heated outdoor pool, designed to provide ultimate relaxation year-round, regardless of the weather. It’s also the perfect opportunity to enjoy one of their scrumptious cocktails on offer.

Indoors, guests can enjoy a 10-metre swimming pool, as well as a eucalyptus-infused steam room. The hydrotherapy pool with its airbed loungers is the perfect place to relax and if, like me, you love the warmth, the heated tile loungers make for the perfect place to read a book.

For those who are a little more daring, there’s a multi-sensory shower which bursts cool mist and tropical rain but for those who want the ultimate relaxation, the Sleep Lounge is a peaceful, tech-free sanctuary perfect for switching off and letting go of daily stress, with cosy seating and closed shutters for complete relaxation.

Treatments

Moddershall Oaks offers an extensive array of treatments, many of which include their popular Demi treatments – quick 25-minute sessions designed for those on the go. I opted for the Demi Glass and Beauty Facial, which promises to leave your skin with a smooth, glass-like finish. My therapist began with a gentle exfoliation, followed by a luxurious blend of fragrant creams that felt delightful on my skin. As a tired mother of two, my skin was in desperate need of some TLC, and I was truly impressed by the instant radiant glow it provided. It was the perfect rejuvenating experience that left me feeling refreshed and revitalised.

The private pool

All overnight guests have the exclusive opportunity to book the private pool experience, and we chose to reserve ours for the evening. The setting was magical; with festoon lighting casting a warm glow and soft steam rising from the perfectly heated pool, it was the perfect way to end our day of relaxation before retreating to our suite, which conveniently offered direct outdoor access, allowing us to stay immersed in the peaceful surroundings.

The wellness centre

One of the highlights of our stay was the chance to use the pristine wellness centre. The gym facility was well-equipped, providing an excellent opportunity to fit in a quick workout amidst our otherwise hectic schedules. With a variety of equipment, from free weights to treadmills and cross trainers, it had everything needed for a full-body workout. If the spa itself didn’t have so much to offer, we could have easily spent more time enjoying the gym. For early risers or fitness enthusiasts, there’s also a wide selection of classes available to book, catering to all levels of experience.

Stay and dine

We were booked into one of the deluxe suites with ample space and a gorgeous private terrace where you could enjoy a drink and soak up the surroundings all in the utmost privacy. The rooms were huge and had the most enormous bed which was the perfect place to sleep after a full day of relaxation!

Moddershall Oaks has recently refurbished their restaurant, The Oak House and its Balcony Bar. We both opted for the burger wanting something hearty and delicious to really top off our night’s escape. We enjoyed our meal over a bottle of wine soaking up the atmosphere of other guests.

Those on spa breaks must order their breakfast the night before – we opted for the smashed avocado which was the perfect dish to set us up for the day.
