Ferrari’s F80: The Dawn of a New Supercar Era

Inspired by motorsport and with the highest output of any road-going Ferrari, Maranello’s new F80 flagship tackles the McLaren W1 head-on.

Ferrari’s latest supercar, the F80, has officially arrived. Unveiled this autumn, this cutting-edge model from Maranello is set to become a legend. With only 799 units in production, the F80 joins Ferrari’s exclusive lineup, which includes icons like the GTO, F40, and LaFerrari. But the F80 isn’t just a tribute to its predecessors; it’s a masterpiece of power, design, and engineering innovation.

Unmatched power and technology

The F80 combines a groundbreaking V6-hybrid powertrain that delivers a remarkable 1200 hp, marking it as Ferrari’s most powerful road car to date. At the heart of this powertrain lies a 3-litre V6 engine that generates 900 hp, while an electric front axle and rear motor add another 300 hp, seamlessly blending hybrid technology with classic Ferrari performance. Drawing inspiration from Ferrari’s Formula 1 and endurance racing endeavours, the F80 inherits the same V6 structure used in the Le Mans-winning 499P model. This is Ferrari’s first supercar to feature electric turbo technology, eliminating turbo lag for unparalleled responsiveness.

Aerodynamic perfection

The F80’s aerodynamics are as advanced as its powertrain. With active features like an adjustable rear wing, rear diffuser, and S-Duct, the F80 achieves 1000 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, delivering impressive stability at high speeds. Its advanced electric front axle offers four-wheel drive, enhancing torque distribution and handling precision. While the F80 is built for the track, Ferrari designed it with everyday usability in mind, making this supercar as road-ready as it is track-prepared.

A driver-centric interior

Inside, the F80’s “1+” layout is inspired by a single-seater cockpit. The driver is the focal point, but a passenger can still ride comfortably. Ferrari’s focus on aerodynamics has led to a narrower cabin with a sporty, immersive design, channelling the look and feel of a Formula 1 car. The cockpit is engineered to envelop the driver, offering a sense of exclusivity and total control.

The F80’s cabin combines luxurious details with a minimalist approach, prioritising function over excess. The steering wheel, with its smaller, ergonomic design and physical buttons, allows for an intuitive driving experience. Passengers sit slightly back from the driver, creating a sense of privacy and enhancing the driver-focused atmosphere of the interior.

A bold new design language

The F80 introduces a daring new aesthetic for Ferrari, drawing on both motorsport and aerospace design. Sleek, powerful lines give it a futuristic profile, with aerodynamic features such as the NACA duct and S-Duct not only boosting performance but also enhancing visual appeal. A floating “bubble” cockpit with sculpted rear wings captures the thrill of speed, while design touches like the rear spoiler and dual exhaust tips echo Ferrari’s racing heritage.

The F80’s exterior isn’t just about looks; it’s a blend of form and function. The body-coloured sections flow seamlessly into the exposed carbon-fibre lower panels, highlighting Ferrari’s precision engineering. From every angle, the F80 embodies both Ferrari’s heritage and its push toward the future.

Pioneering hybrid performance

Ferrari’s in-house hybrid powertrain technology brings Formula 1-derived elements to the F80, with three driving modes – Hybrid, Performance, and Qualify – each designed to optimise performance. The F80 also debuts Ferrari’s innovative Boost Optimisation feature, which enhances power delivery on specific track sections, an industry-first that brings an edge to competitive driving.

Ferrari’s first electric motors developed entirely in-house take the F80 to new levels, with a DC/DC converter to transform energy efficiently across the car’s systems. By eliminating the need for a separate battery and using in-house developed components, Ferrari has reduced weight and maximised power output, further enhancing the F80’s capabilities.

Aerodynamic mastery for stability and speed

The F80’s aerodynamic architecture includes solutions borrowed from Ferrari’s Formula 1 and endurance racing programmes, optimised for a road car. The active rear wing adjusts dynamically, fine-tuning downforce and drag based on speed, steering angle, and road conditions. The innovative rear diffuser channels airflow to create low-pressure zones under the car, delivering unprecedented stability and cornering precision. All of these elements make the F80 a supercar capable of exceptional speed and agility without sacrificing control.

State-of-the-art safety and usability

Ferrari’s engineering mastery extends to every detail of the F80, including safety and usability. The active suspension system automatically adjusts ride height and cornering response, creating a smooth ride on the road while offering track-ready handling. Equipped with all main Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) available today, the F80 is as prepared for city streets as it is for high-speed circuits. ADAS features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, and Automatic Emergency Braking, making the F80 as safe as it is thrilling.

Unparalleled maintenance and ownership benefits

With a seven-year maintenance programme, Ferrari ensures F80 owners have access to top-quality service and upkeep, a first for a Ferrari supercar. This package includes regular checks, original Ferrari parts, and diagnostics by Ferrari-trained technicians, guaranteeing that the F80 remains in prime condition. This commitment reflects Ferrari’s dedication to the long-term satisfaction of its clients, offering peace of mind for those fortunate enough to own this limited-edition model.

The F80: A new benchmark for the supercar world

The Ferrari F80 sets a new standard for luxury performance. Combining the raw power of a high-performance engine with cutting-edge hybrid technology, Ferrari has created a supercar that is both a tribute to its heritage and a glimpse into its future. With the F80, Ferrari has crafted an automotive experience that captures the essence of speed, precision, and aesthetic beauty, and which will undoubtedly be cherished by enthusiasts and collectors alike.
