Dubai is an adult’s playground that does things bigger, better and more extravagant than anywhere else in the world. It’s a place where five-star luxury doesn’t quite cut it, and where people expect seven-star service, seven-star hotels and a lifestyle that’s dripping in glamour. Supercars roar through the streets, high-end designer boutiques line every corner, and exclusive restaurants serve up luxury on a plate – it seems everything Dubai touches quite literally turns to gold.

But on the last Saturday in March, these bustling streets and packed-out restaurants become deserted, and instead, the Meydan Racecourse becomes the city’s heaving centre where the rich, the famous and the ultra-wealthy enjoy the richest day out on the social calendar, the Dubai World Cup.

A standout event on the global sporting and social scene, this extraordinary horse racing event is one of the most spectacular in the world, boasting a total prize value of $30.5 million.

Brought to life through the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Dubai World Cup is a truly international stage where the world’s finest horses compete each year. Held at the iconic Meydan Racecourse, these races mark the pinnacle of the UAE’s horse racing season.

The day

The grand day out, draws over 60,000 spectators who gather to watch the world’s top thoroughbreds and jockeys battle it out across nine races along Meydan’s massive, mile-long grandstand. Racing kicks off in the afternoon, building toward the evening’s final showdowns under the stars, as the stadium lights cast a glow on the stunning crescent-shaped roof above.

Once the races are over, guests are treated to a live concert after the races with legends like Elton John, Sia, Rudimental and Jenifer Lopez continuing the party into the early hours. Dubai throws a party like nowhere else in the world – and spectators are just as glamorous as the A-list performers.

The attire

When it comes to the dress code, just like Dubai itself, the more glamorous, the better. Women and men alike are invited to join in the best dressed competition, with fashion editors from the likes of Vogue and Grazia and their photographers roaming around to capture those who really stand out in style and sophistication. Much like historical horse racing attire, it’s all about statement hats and sophisticated gowns. Men too, need to ensure to don their sharpest suits. There’s even a best dressed couple award – so grab those coordinated outfits, strike a pose, and be in with the chance of being crowned Dubai’s best dressed couple!

The cuisine

The restaurants and catering options are, of course, as fabulous as the event itself – outrageously so! Sky Bubble which is situated beneath the famous crescent-shaped roof of the Meydan Grandstand, offers a distinctive experience with breathtaking 360° views of the Meydan Racecourse and the Dubai cityscape.

There are of course more lavish and premium options available including the Royal Enclosure where you can quite literally wine and dine from this exclusive area. With a private terrace, secluded leather seats to watch the races, glass windows for a private view of the racing actions, and Majlis-exclusive banquet with a premium beverage bundle and private chauffeur to pick you up it’s the ultimate VIP package. You even get delivered a unique metal badge which only members of the elite who choose this optimum package receive.

Like everywhere in Dubai, the restaurant options at the Dubai World Cup caters for every want, need and tastebud.

All in all, the Dubai World Cup is more than just a horse race; it’s the epitome of Dubai’s unique blend of sport, luxury, and glamour. It’s a grand day out where guests indulge in exquisite dining, world-class hospitality, and dazzling entertainment, making it as much of a social event as it is a sporting one. The Dubai World Cup really is one of the most iconic events in both the sporting and social worlds.
