The things we love about Cornish holidays

By LLM Reporters   |

With miles upon miles of beautiful coastline, rugged beaches, hot pasties and scrumpy cider, there’s a lot to love about Cornwall. But what’s so special about a Cornish holiday? Well, these things, for starters…

The beaches
Cornwall has over 300 wonderful beaches for locals and tourists to enjoy. Whether you want to feel silky sand between your toes, the crunch of pebbles moving under your shoes or simply want to sit alone in a peaceful cove, there are plenty of beaches to choose from! The great news is that many of Cornwall’s beaches are dog-friendly too, so you can bring your pooch along and let him chase seagulls, run in and out of the waves and sniff those delicious crabbing pots…

The sea
Similarly, Cornwall is famed for its surfing opportunities: head to Bude if you want to sample Cornwall’s waves, perfect for experienced surfers who want to make the most of the reef breaks. Gwithian beach is perfect for surfing too, and boasts plenty of opportunities for novice surfers looking for lessons as the waves form and break very slowly here.

St Ives

If you’d prefer to stay on dry land, Perranporth’s three miles of golden sand is a popular sport for a stroll, and Godvery Beach is the perfect place if you want to feel the breeze from the Atlantic Ocean whipping through your hair (with a National Trust car park located behind the dunes for extra convenience).

The salty air
Sun-kissed skin, salt-tangled hair and a day spent in the great outdoors is another reason Cornwall makes such a brilliant holiday destination. With tons of things to do outside, from body boarding to hiking, surfing to cycling, you’ll sleep like a baby and feel rested and re-energised after a Cornish holiday.

The cottages
Another reason holidays to the south west are so wonderful is because you’ll get to snap photographs of quintessential classic cottages as you amble round the seaside towns and fishing villages. Keep your eyes peeled for whitewashed cottages, cliff-side dwellings and homes stacked in higgedly-piggedly fashion around harbours – they’re certain to lend some charm to your Instagram feed and make you the envy of your friends and family back at home.

The food
One of the most memorable parts of our holiday – wherever we venture to in the world –are the meals we eat. Luckily, there’s plenty to devour in Cornwall: delicious breads, fluffy scones, Cornish cream, fresh fish, juicy lobsters and a selection of ales are just some of the things you can look forward to filling your belly with! And best of all, Cornwall is filled with beach-side bars and restaurants if you fancy tucking into dinner with a view of the setting sun over the ocean. Heaven!

The countryside
Not only is there so much seaside on offer, there’s also a blanket of bucolic green countryside to explore too. Drive down country lanes, walk through fields with cows grazing in the summer sun, and head across wildflower meadows peppered with Celtic churchyards: it’s worth travelling inland if you want to make the most of it all.

The tourist hotspots
Last but not least, Cornish holidays are so much fun because of all the tourist hotspots there are to see: whether you’re heading to the indoor rainforest at the Eden Project, checking out the Minack Theatre or heading up to St Michael’s Mount, there’s more than enough to keep your family entertained come rain or shine!
