I have always been a fan of the delicious food served at Mainland China, India’s largest and most successful chain of standalone Chinese restaurants managed by Speciality restaurants. The restaurant chain serves authentic cuisine from the major provinces of China. Mainland China has a pan Indian presence across Mumbai, Pune, Goa, Nashik, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Surat, New Delhi, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Kolkata, Durgapur, Patna, Guwahati, Bhubaneshwar, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mangalore, Cochin and Chennai.
The very fact that they now have a branch in most areas of Pune says a lot about their popularity and success ratio with foodies in Pune. The two gold Xiang Chinese warriors at the entrance, rosewood furniture with subdued lighting and private spaces make one feel very comfortable while enjoying a gourmet meal that is quite unlike any other.
I started off a fabulous meal with a dim sum platter which consisted of a superb selection of both vegetarian and non vegetarian varieties. We ordered the corn and water chestnut dumplings, the crab cakes, the chilli pan fried fish, the crackling spinach which is an all time favourite.
The quality of ingredients has always been superior and even today after so many years, the cuisine served here manages to retain it’s consistency levels which is really commendable.
For the mains, we tried the egg fried rice, the vegetable hakka noodles along with the black pepper jumbo prawns, dynamite tofu and the sapo chicken. Even though Mainland China has a list of all time favourite dishes which are popular with most guests, they keep adding innovative preparations created by expert chefs to their menu every year.
We ended a great meal with the mango pudding and the drool worthy daarsaan served with vanilla ice cream. Their weekend buffet meals priced very reasonably have always been extremely popular with price conscious Puneites. Office goers and those who work in the vicinity can go for their weekday lunch buffets which are a steal for the prices.
What works for guests here is the refined and elegant ambience; the amazingly fresh and flavorful food and most importantly the friendly and efficient staff who make guests feel genuinely welcome while they are here. Mainland China Pimpri is worth several visits!
