Hotel of the week: The Corinthia Hotel London

By Felicity Williams   |

One of London’s most opulent hotels, The Corinthia Hotel London provides 5-star luxury at ever turn. Conveniently located, the River Thames is a stones throw away and close to all the major tourist hotspots from the National Gallery to Downing Street and Big Ben.

The setting of the hotel is truly beautiful, combining traditional Victorian grandeur (formerly it was the Hôtel Métropole which opened in 1885) with a contemporary update for the modern traveller.

The Corinthia is a collection of hotels founded by the Pisani family of Malta in 1962. Known for providing a warm welcome and the very best service, they want you to feel like you’re coming back home, and they certainly do that.

The hotel consists of 294 beautifully designed rooms and 47 exquisite suites that have a contemporary yet homely feel and have luxury touches such as heated floors, sumptuous Hypnos beds and Italian marble bathrooms.

What’s more it features its own grand staircase that continues to two bedrooms with king-size beds and bathrooms of honey onyx and Skyros marble.

Connecting doors open-up the option of two further bedrooms. From the private spa suite and hidden den to the butler’s kitchen and walk-in wine cellar, the suite’s design offers that lavish opulence you would expect of the Corinthia.

What’s more this penthouse offers breathtaking 180º panoramic view of London, with a terrace (680 ft2) and balcony (75 ft2) and features a gas fire pit for cosy evenings on the terrace.

Fine Dining
Dining is something that is very close to the heart of Corinthia’s founder, Alfred Pisani and it comes to no surprise that their two fine dining restaurants offer the very best in their fields: Massimo Restaurant & Bar (Italian) or The Northall Restaurant (British).

Restaurant Focus: Massimo Restaurant & Bar
For an authentic taste of Italy the Massimo Restaurant & Bar is a must-try. Headed up by Andrea Cirino, he joined the team two years ago. Citing inspiration from his grandfather (a passionate pastry chef in Napoli during the 1970s) Cirino combines his heritage with Southern Italian training. As a result, at Massimo, you will find the very best Italian food in the city with unparalleled service.

Favourite main courses include the Bucatini Trafilati al Bronzo “Cacio e Pepe” (Thick Hollow Pasta with Cheese and Black Pepper) and Trofie con Cozze, Cannellini e Pecorino (Twisted Pasta with Mussels, Cannellini Beans and Pecorino Cheese) – these have to be tasted. For desert, the classic air-light Tiramisù al Caffè is a perfect ending, or for all those chocolate that want even more of a chocolate hit, try the Degustazione di Cioccolato (The Five Senses of Chocolate) which includes decadent chocolate done 5 ways.
