Thai Silk opens its doors in Southwark

Thai Silk in Southwark is the latest addition to the prestigious Royal China Group. It prides itself on offering the finest, authentic Thai cuisine and impeccable customer service.

The restaurant, bar and karaoke venue is situated a five minute walk from Waterloo station, and less than two minutes from Southwark underground station. It is in a prime location close to cultural hotspots such as the Tate Modern, National Theatre, and the Southbank.

Thai Silk’s authentic décor features traditional Thai decorations such as gold Buddha’s, wall art, and an eye-catching Hong (a celestial swan). A lustrous red and gold colour scheme creates an inviting atmosphere.

The restaurant boasts 100 covers for dining, with an additional 250 in the contemporary bar area which has both indoor and alfresco seating. There are also two private rooms for karaoke, hosting up to 24 in the King room and 40 guests in the Queen room.

The signature dishes include Panaeng Gae (Massaman curry with lamb shank); Kaeng Kiew Wahn Neua (Traditional green curry with beef); and Kao Phad Subpraround (Pineapple fried rice).

To ensure that the food at Thai Silk is authentic, around 80% of the native Thai ingredients are shipped directly from Thailand. However where possible the restaurant uses locally sourced ingredients in order to save on food miles.

The nine strong all-Thai kitchen brigade is led by Head Chef, Mr. Pornthep Kongha, whose background includes the Ambassador Hotel in Bangkok, and Thai Garden in London.

Thai Silk’s large contemporary bar area for 250 guests offers a selection of Champagne, wine, spirits and cocktails. Guests can indulge in Happy Hour every day from 5pm until 7pm. During this time cocktails are available for £8.50 and a bucket containing five beers is £14.95. In the summer guests can enjoy al fresco dining and drinks surrounded by lush greenery; while during the colder months the large patio eco-friendly halogen heaters will keep guests warm.

Every Friday and last Thursday of each month diners can party the night away at the popular DJ nights. With complimentary entry, guests can dance to the sounds of resident DJ Mel.

There are two karaoke rooms at Thai Silk available for private hire. The King Room offers a sit-down dinner for 16 people or a buffet for 30 people. Meanwhile, the Queen Room can accommodate larger groups of 24 people seated or 40 people for a buffet. The King Room can be booked for a ‘minimum food spend’ of £350, and the Queen Room for £550.

The state-of-the-art karaoke systems boasts over 100,000 songs to choose from in English, Thai and Chinese. Karaoke is available any night of the week.

The venue is open Noon until 11pm Monday to Thursday, and until midnight on Friday. At the weekend, Thai Silk is open from 5pm until 11pm on Saturday and is closed on Sunday.
