Considerably the most English of London streets, the Ushvani Spa in Chelsea offers a retreat with exotic significance. An all-round wellness experience with holistic ideals from Malaysia, this luxurious spa incorporates a concept that carefully and expertly blends raw, plant based materials.
Located within the enviably English Cadogan Gardens that is easily accessible from Sloane Square, Ushvani Spa was founded by Usha Arumugam, who set up her Malaysian vision with a background built upon her extensive holistic wellbeing knowledge with an understanding of business, to create her unique wellness orientated city experience.
I arrive at this subtly positioned day spa and am greeted by a heavy, wooden carved door where I am soon buzzed in. A conscious effort to retain the original character of the building, Ushvani have carefully blended their wellness facilities and overall Malaysian concept; honouring the heritage for a fully encapsulating environment as one.
Widely recognized within the industry as having a dedicated and highly trained team, this award-winning spa is designed for city goers looking for an instant dose of total relaxation and overall wellbeing. With well thought out and relevant spa treatments, all are specifically suited to their audience and are designed as an escape from the stresses of daily life.
Within the spacious women’s floor, complete with a private hydrotherapy pool, I am booked into their Balinese massage. A technique taken from the Indonesian spice islands, this muscle easing massage aims to rid the body of toxins with the use of stimulating and re-energising techniques to uplift the body; an ideal treatment for their wide audience of office workers.
A therapy that is also centralised around taking advance of the body’s pressure points, it is also specifically designed and targeted to release emotions or stress that is often held within the body. Incorporating their stomach massage, which is unique to Ushvani, this treatment focuses on improving digestion and stimulating the metabolic rate; essentially to reduce bloating. With three out of five women within the UK suffering from IBS, this ancient inspired treatment taken from the far east is far more relevant to modern day, working women than it ever was.
Founder Usha Arumugam outlines – ‘Ushvani’s atmosphere of calm and tranquillity is purposely fostered allowing our clients to shed the outside world at our door. We achieve this not only through the design of the spa and the treatments on offer but also through the high levels of customer service.’
Where eastern ideals meet the modern west, the heritage of the Ushavni’s concept is complemented with the Malaysian artwork and products that are infused with coconut, lime and precious essential oils; concluding in an atmosphere of unique mystique and relaxation. Although treatments are available for both sexes with a male dedicated space and yoga studio on the upper floor, the lower ground floor is for ladies only, allowing privacy for those who desire it.
Treatments at Ushvani (www.ushvani.com, 020 7730 2888) start from £180 for a 90 minute massage or £130 for a 90 minute facial.
