Restaurant Review: Ping Pong, St Katherine Dock’s New ‘Dim Sum mer’ Menu

By Georgie Bentley-Buckle   |

An urban bubble of yachts gently bobbing on the water, St Katherine’s Docks holds its own with a cosmopolitan aura; away from the rapid streams of traffic with bars and restaurants lining its exterior. With enviable views over the marina, transporting diners to the bustling streets of Shanghai whilst replicating the sights and smells of its sizzling street food is Ping Pong.

Available at all nine sites across the city and exclusively for the summer months, Ping Pong have launched their new ‘Dim Sum mer’ Menu. A combination of fresh, exotic flavours that are dappled with spice and thirst quenching sharing cocktails, vibrant dishes include Spring Roll Bowls or Smoked Chilli Chicken Wings as well as Ping Pong’s signature steamed Bao Buns which have been revamped with fillings that include Crispy Duck, Chilli Prawn and Crispy Aubergine.

A summer menu that thinks out of the box, whilst including those looking for gluten free options, the innovative and Instagram-ready, are the Rice Burger Sliders. Essentially burger hybrids influenced by the far East, each come with variety of fillings such as Pork Tenderloin, Chilli Prawn or veggie-friendly Crispy Aubergine. Playing their part in the current black food, charcoal trend for dessert, this summer menu offers their surprisingly refreshing bowl of pitch black Coconut Ash Ice Cream which is made with activated charcoal.

An Eastern spin on England’s favourite sharing cocktails, the Asian Pimm’s and lemonade is a mix of osmanthus flower-infused rose’ and prosecco, while a twist on the Spanish favourite; the Lemongrass Sangria combines Bombay Sapphire gin, St. Germain, lemongrass, lime and white wine. The individual cocktail list is made up of the Yuzu Nashi Margarita or the Cucumber Tonic, again both twists on classics, as well as the aptly named Green Temple; made with Finlandia vodka, Limoncello, fresh lemon and basil; shaken and served with a hint of black pepper.

Stepping aside from the alcohol, ideal for any time of day and for those who want to look after themselves, Ping Pong’s summer menu also features a selection of superfood charged non-alcoholic drinks. For a dose of energy and vitamins, options include the wheatgrass laced Booster Juice and an acai and guarana-based Pep Talk.

The limited edition ‘Dim Sum Mer’ menu can be enjoyed in all nine of Ping Pong’s restaurants located all over London from 6th June – 5th September.
