By LLM Reporters   |

Three years after Porsche revealed they were planning to create their first luxurious electric vehicle, the Mission E has had a name change and has been given a launch date. 2018 marks Porsche’s 70th anniversary and the German automobile giant have celebrated with a spectacular exhibition where the Porsche Taycan was revealed.

The Taycan is set to hit showrooms in 2020 and looks set to be even better than Porsche’s Mission E’s original concept.

High end specification

CEO Oliver Blume revealed the Taycan translated loosely to “lively, young horse” which fits the leaping horse design the brand have used on their crest since 1952. The Taycan will be able to do an impressive 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds due to its double motor and 600 horsepower.

Meanwhile, Porsche have promised that on a race track, the Taycan will be capable of hitting 124 mph in less than 12 seconds. While it’s top speed will be 155 miles an hour. As with any electric vehicle, it’s important that the car’s battery provides a sizeable mileage before a recharge is required.

Thankfully, Porsche have assured car enthusiasts that the Taycan’s battery will provide 300 miles of travel on a single charge, ensuring owners can travel in style and care free.

A game changer

In May, Formula 1 race winner, Mark Webber became the first individual to officially test drive the Taycan. Recorded footage of his drive shows him effortlessly manoeuvring the vehicle around the Porsche Weissach test track.

Following his drive, he stated that it was a “game changer” and that it reminded him of the 919 Hybrid race car. Porsche also have high hopes for their first EV and state that the Taycan provides a “level of continuous power that is unmatched by any other electric vehicle.”

Competition in the luxury EV market

Manufacturing of the Taycan is expected to commence later this year, with the first official Taycan due to hit showrooms in 2020.

While, Porsche haven’t yet unveiled official pricing details for their first EV, it’s believed it will be priced similar to rival EV, the Tesla Model S, which currently has an RRP starting at £66,730.

Having spent a considerable sum on your new vehicle, it’s of course vital to consider protection on the roads. Thankfully, insuring the Taycan should be relatively easy as an increasing number of UK insurers are now offering insurance for green vehicles.

There has been very little competition in the luxury electric vehicle market since Tesla’s first release, but all that is about to change now that Porsche are producing a luxurious, powerful vehicle.

The Taycan is set to become the EV of the future due to its opulent design and specification which will likely see it become the hottest luxury EV in the industry when it hits showrooms in 2020.
