Brunch Review: Wright Brothers, Battersea in London

By Georgie Bentley-Buckle   |

I visited Wright Brothers Battersea in December when it was fresh to the SW restaurant scene. Back then we curled up inside the warm new interior and gorged ourselves on seafood. This time, however, I headed back for a different experience: its new summertime brunch; appropriately positioned within their outdoor terrace overlooking the Thames.

Having launched just in time for the May Day Bank Holiday on 5thMay, this new seafood style brunch menu runs from 11am – 2pm exclusively on the weekends.

Having launched just in time for the May Day Bank Holiday on 5thMay, this new seafood style brunch menu runs from 11am – 4pm exclusively on the weekends. The star of the show that stole our hearts back late last year was the ‘build your own’ seafood platter and this was what we kicked our brunch off with. At Wright Brothers, this includes a selection of our favourite large, fresh Carlingford Irish oysters and some smaller, saltier Scottish Cumbrae which we selected from a large and varying oyster selection. Whilst reminiscent of home back on the coast in Suffolk, my guest also orders a collection of the largest whelks I have seen. These impressive build your own seafood platters are presented on ice with other options including St. Austell Bay mussels, Atlantic prawns, whole brown shrimps, clams, razor clams or langoustines. A visit to Wright Brothers cannot be considered complete without one of these signature seafood selections.

Turning our attention to the new brunch dishes, diners can choose from a Devon crab omelette with crab bisque, the Wright Brothers hangtown fry (3 crispy fried oysters, jalapeño spiced hollandaise, poached egg, crispy pancetta, grilled English muffins) and the indulgent lobster croque monsieur. No weekend brunch is complete without cocktails and Wright Brothers Battersea have incorporated classic cocktails into this new brunch complete with special twists. Sip on the Wright Brothers Bloody Mary made with rosemary-infused Stolichnaya vodka, WB spice blend, tomato juice, shichimi pepper & oyster, a breakfast martini mixed with Bombay sapphire gin, Cointreau, orange marmalade, lemon juice & toasted bread and Mimosas which are mixed with seasonal fruit, sugar & Prosecco – also available with Scavi & Ray, a non-alcoholic Prosecco…(for those who are still fragile from an indulgent evening the night before).

Wright Brothers Battersea’s new brunch continues to champion the popular ‘sea to plate’ ethos that is paired with a modern and accessible approach that the specialist group source from their own wholesale company in Billingsgate Market. With a different ambience and cooking style of seafood, the founders’ commitment to the finest quality can be found across the group’s restaurant portfolio also includes Borough Market, Soho, Spitalfields and South Kensington. Additionally, the boutique restaurant chain also supply seafood to over 270 prominent restaurants and chefs across the UK.
