Donnington Valley in Newbury, Berkshire is the perfect escape for couples. Boasting an 18-hole golf course, spa, swimming pool and gym with classes aplenty it’s a great escape for those wanting to recuperate for 24 hours.
Whether it’s lounging by the pool whilst your husband hits the golf course, or for you both to unwind together in the aromatherapy room and Jacuzzi followed by a treatment, there’s plenty on offer for everyone.
We were booked into the executive room, just a few doors down to the spa, which was brilliant as I’m not usually one for donning a robe all day. The room itself was lovely and spacious equipped with two white fluffy robes and slippers as well as my personal favourite touch, The White Company products.
After unpacking our essentials, my husband and I headed straight to the pool and Jacuzzi to make the most of the small toddler free window we had together.
After a relaxing hour of swimming and relaxing in the sauna; it was time for our treatments. The spa area itself is equipped with an array of lovely products and two warm and friendly therapists to greet us. My husband, Dan had the Sonoma Aromatherapy Massage which he described as 55 minutes of pure bliss leaving him feeling calm and relaxed. This was exactly what he needed – as commuting into London every day and having a toddler to wake him up at 6am every morning can sometimes take its toll on your muscles.
I decided to treat myself to having my nails done – it’s not something I’d usually choose to have done at a spa, but never getting the time to sit in a salon and get them done professionally, this was a real treat. Chloe, my therapist was absolutely gorgeous – immaculate in presentation, she was friendly and helped me pick out a nice neutral tone.
For dinner, we headed to the Winepress Restaurant where the head waiter was brilliant in suggesting a red wine to pair with Grilled Cote de Boeuf for two that we shared for our main. Cooked to perfection, it went down a treat, so much so we definitely didn’t have room for dessert.
With full tummy’s we retired to our rooms, well rested and well fed!
