We caught up with TV personality, former Liberty X member and busy mum, Michelle Heaton to talk all things beauty, health and body confidence.
What can be found in your bathroom cabinet?
Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate, St Ives apricot scrub, Silk’n Tightra device, Dove gradual tan medium to dark, mint body wash, Elizabeth Arden’s 8-hour cream, Blue Corn 3in1 scrub mask and Gold Class Extensions shampoo and conditioner as I have their hair extensions.
Who’s your beauty icon?
Jennifer Lopez – she always looks flawless and gets better with age – something we all strive to do!
What’s your best affordable beauty buy?
Dove gradual tan medium to dark. It’s the best gradual tanner I’ve ever had and it’s a bargain! I also use Simple products a lot as I find them less harsh in general and I love to use Egyptian Magic cream after I cleanse.
What’s your best luxury beauty buy?
Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour cream – I’ve always got a tube on the go. It’s also good for taming eyebrows, hair, chapped lips, as a cleanser, and it’s really good for sunburn.
What are your top beauty tricks?
Easy hair removal. No busy working woman/working mother wants to constantly spend their time shaving or painfully waxing legs. Silk’n has an amazing at-home device with eHPL technology that works with pulses of light to remove hair permanently. This means no stress on what to wear and a last-minute outfit change doesn’t mean a rush with the razor! I am converted and love having constantly smooth skin with Silk’n Infinity device.
When do you feel your most confident?
When I know I’ve put some effort in to look my best, it’s about making the best of what you’ve got. I never regret a workout either – getting up that hour early always pays off for me and, as a busy mum, just getting a few hours to go to the hairdresser or get my nails done makes me feel better.
Salon vs at-home treatments?
It is lovely to book in salon or clinical treatments but realistically as a working mum of two I just don’t get the time. At-home treatments give you the ‘me time’ without the stress of having to leave the house. Silk’n Tightra is perfect for at-home use because it is quick – it only takes 20 minutes per session (and even I can manage 20 minutes of me time before I’m disturbed!) Plus, it is effective – it actually works like a salon treatment.
What’s the best piece of beauty advice you’ve ever been given?
Always take your make up off at night, no matter how tired you are. Believe me, I can’t always be bothered, sometimes I keep make up wipes in my bag and get a head start on the way home, just to save me five minutes when I walk in the door!
Do you have a go-to outfit and makeup routine?
You can’t go wrong with jeans and a crisp white shirt! My go-to daily makeup is a good primer, Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation and the YSL Touche Éclat Concealer. I then finish it off with a Benefit mascara.
What are your workout tips for a busy mum?
Even if it’s 15 minutes in front of a YouTube workout, it’s better than nothing – when my kids were small, I used to use them as weights in front of the TV! You don’t have to be in a gym – there are some amazing short videos online now and if you get up 15 minutes earlier in the morning and do them you will soon notice a difference.
How do you stay healthy and happy?
It’s not all or nothing with me, I try and do 70/30 so I know that I can have a treat when I want to. For me, I feel my best when I know I’ve eaten well and worked out and I tend to save my treats for a glass or two of wine in the evening! Also, I surround myself with positive people – lots of laughter is good for you.
Has your beauty regime changed during the menopause and, if it did, what were the biggest things you noticed and what was your beauty savior?
I noticed a lot more dryness to my skin, so ever since I have been using products designed for more mature skin and loss of elasticity to boost my moisture levels like Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour cream, it’s a God send!
Do you have any beauty tips to help with confidence? Is there a particular product that makes you feel sexier?
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it is that confidence radiates from within. Also, with age, less is more on our skin, I love products like Farsali rose gold elixir instead of heavy powders.
Are you body confident?
I like to think so – obviously the scars are a reminder of what I’ve been through in life – but yes! how can I teach my daughter scars and stretch marks are all part of life’s journey if I’m not?
Michelle Heaton has partnered with Silk’n for Silk’n Tightra as part of the Own Your Confidence campaign. Silk’n Tightra is a revolutionary, non-invasive vaginal rejuvenation device, to help women gain back their confidence in their daily lives. silkn.eu
