A-List stars and rich kids have flocked to Long Island, specifically The Hamptons, for decades. The destination is the go-to getaway for New Yorkers and beyond, seeking serenity thanks to its acres of vineyards, white sand beaches, and fresh seafood. Summer is the perfect time to take advantage of scorching New York state weather and the host of festivals and events taking place, however, the region is worth visiting year-round especially if you have luxury on your mind.
Here are five of our favourites when it comes to visiting The Hamptons.
See: The Beaches
Long Island beaches are world famous for fine white sand, miles of boardwalks, and beach trails. There are so many to choose from – 120 miles of it in fact. Our favourites are in Montauk – not only are they natural but they’re also close to some of the coolest hangouts. The Surf Lodge on Fort Pond has great live music to accompany you on the beach, as well as wellness, art and food. It’s been frequented by the likes of Malia Obama, Leonardo DiCaprio and Taylor Swift, and past summer performances have featured John Legend and Solange Knowles.
Eat: Organic Krush
Organic Krush complements beach vibes perfectly. Who doesn’t want to eat healthily when they’re surrounded by nature, clear waters and energising sunshine? They have locations in The Hamptons, throughout Long Island and Virginia. The menu features delicious, organic food that is free of pesticides and GMO’s, including salads and wraps, sandwiches, acai bowls, soups, cold-pressed juices, smoothies, gluten free baked goods, and much more. We love the juice cleanse plans for the hardcore health enthusiasts.
Shop: What Goes Around Comes Around
WGACA is a luxury vintage boutique known as the premier purveyor of the finest luxury vintage accessories and apparel from around the word. Their selection of pre-owned accessories and apparel range from brands Chanel to Hermes and Louis Vuitton to Dior. They have been in business for over 25 years and their East Hampton location is the hot spot for superstars and those looking to invest in fashion.
Do: The Clubhouse
The Clubhouse is an entertainment destination in The Hamptons that is suitable for the whole family, but is also great for letting your hair down if you’re just travelling as a couple. There’s bowling, tennis, mini golf, a sports bar, outside fire pits and, like the Surf Lodge, there’s live music. (The Hamptons are alive with live music all summer!). Stars bring their loved ones, with guests over the years including Paul McCartney, Drew Barrymore and Donna Karan.
Sleep: The Maidstone
The Maidstone is a historic retreat that has been nestled in East Hampton for over 150 years, with renovations in 2017 providing an updated whimsical take on the traditional Americana and Hamptons aesthetics. These are reflected in the shared spaces throughout, including the pink sunroom, art bar and classic lounge. The hotel has 19 stunning individually designed rooms and cottages, which all come with lush Jonathan Baker products. Read our full review here.
Getting there
Long Island is serviced by three major airports including local airport, Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) and the two most UK visitors will arrive from; John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in Queens. To get to The Hamptons, the best thing to do is to rent a car at the airport. There are a variety of options available at each.
