Creating a home of dreams that you will cherish living in and enjoy every minute of time spent there is a hope for many, and when you have the opportunity to do this you will want to get it right in every way. From a custom-built kitchen to designer décor to elegant furnishings, the quality and style of your interior says a lot about you, and if you’re the type of person who loves to invest in the finest things in life, you will be looking to get the look and feel of your home just right.

Of course, in the search of creating a tasteful abode, you really want to avoid to your home looking too much like a show home, you will want to embody some character within the styling, after all, what makes a house a home is the people who live in it and the experiences they have shared, the memories made and the adventures they have undertaken together. Your home should be a reflection of who you are, giving visitors a sense of the person or people who live there.

Having said this, there is a fine balance when it comes to having a home that boasts enough personality for it to be comfortable, yet elegant, and one where its sense of style has been somewhat lost. Read on for three ways of bringing personality into your home without compromising on style.

Custom artwork

Of course, if you’ve had the interior designers in to craft a beautiful home, there won’t be very much you can do without taking away from all of their expert work, though a true professional will work with you when figuring out how to incorporate those personal elements. A great way to incorporate small personal touches in your home after it has been designed is through custom artwork.

This can come in a variety of forms, but some of our favourite options include custom puzzles – designed by independent artists from all over the world, you could create and display an image of your favourite holiday destination for something fun and unique.

There is also the classic portrait that you could have commissioned of you and your loved ones. Something that we see less of these days is a full family portrait that has been painted rather than photographed, and it would certainly add an elegant and special air to any home. Why not commission a local artist or look up those that have appeared on TV show, Portrait Artist of the Year for your unique piece?

Signature fabrics

For a completely different addition to your home, why not consider creating your very own signature fabric? Get in touch with an illustrator whose designs appeal to you and see if you can work on a signature design together and have this printed on a material of your choice. This would be a great way to introduce something entirely exclusive into your interiors and you can work with your interior designer to incorporate your fabric in an appropriate way.

This could be used within your soft furnishings – cushion covers, a bedspread or curtains – or perhaps when reupholstering a piece of furniture that you own, such as an occasional chair or ottoman, either way, it’s a great way to add both personality and style to your home simultaneously.

Imaginative accessories

Are you a keen hat collector? Do have a collection of pretty plates that you just don’t know what to do with? Perhaps you’re an aficionado of a musical instrument and you have a few to spare – use what defines you and your hobbies and incorporate this into your home in a creative, yet modish way. Not only will it be unique to you, but it will create a talking point when you next have guests over. Think outside the box and display your hobby in a distinct way.
