The United States is known for its scorching weather, luxurious seas and glamorous vacations. With overseas travel looking like a possibility this year with the government’s recent announcement of the ‘traffic light’ system, why not venture to the American coast for your dream summer holiday? 

America’s successful vaccine rollout is increasing consumer confidence for a stateside summer this year. American Airlines recently started a daily service from Heathrow to Miami, and Aer Lingus will launch flights from Manchester to New York JFK and Orlando, Florida from 29 July. So, with the flights sorted, we have rounded up the coolest stateside hotels to explore this summer. 

Florida

Moxy South Beach, Miami

A stylish and playful celebration of Miami’s cosmopolitan culture, Moxy South Beach is the brand’s first resort-style property and a new chapter for hospitality in Miami Beach. Located steps from the sand on Washington Avenue, the newly built 202-room, eight-story hotel offers the dining, drinking, lounging, and co-working options that today’s design-focused travellers crave. Interiors by Rockwell Group and Saladino Design Studios blend the glamour of mid-century Havana, the artistry of contemporary Mexico City, and a tropical vibrancy that’s unmistakably Miami. 

Guest rooms, dressed in vivid Miami hues and drenched in Florida sunshine thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows, feature rain showers and ingenious, space-maximizing storage solutions. Guests can choose their own South Beach adventure in Moxy South Beach’s multiple indoor-outdoor spaces, whether it’s drinks in the courtyard; an alfresco brunch on the terrace followed by a dip in the 72-foot, cabana-lined pool; a workout in the indoor-outdoor fitness centre; a film screening on the eighth-floor rooftop accompanied by a panoramic ocean view; or a splash in the sea at the hotel’s Moxy Beach Club.

Six new dining and drinking venues, developed in partnership with the founders of Miami’s uber-popular Coyo Taco and 1-800-LUCKY, include Como Como, a marisquería (seafood restaurant) and raw bar; Mezcalista, a sexy mezcal lounge; Serena, an open-air rooftop restaurant and bar with a laid-back yet sophisticated vibe; Los Buenos, a taco stand/bodega in the lobby, complemented by Bar Moxy, which does double duty as a social hub and check-in area; and The Upside, a rooftop bar on the eighth floor exclusively for hotel guests and private events.

California

Mission Pacific Hotel, A Joie de Vivre by Hyatt Hotel

Situated on 700 feet of pristine beachfront near the historic pier in Oceanside, CA, Mission Pacific opens on May 19 2021, as the ultimate bohemian-chic coastal experience; dreamy, laid back, and utterly frictionless. Arizona Biltmore Reinvented

Re-opening May 1st

Since closing its doors in March 2020 for the first time since 1973, the Arizona Biltmore is re-emerging on May 1 after an undeniably fresh, modern, and uniquely Biltmore renovation. The Phoenix-based resort is a 1929 Art Deco desert masterpiece that’s globally recognized as one of the only existing hotels in the world to benefit from Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural pedigree. ​

Standalone refreshed cottages are just one of the new features, offering guests the ultimate home-away-from-home in a bespoke luxury setting. Upon entry, guests will be greeted by a palette of earthy colours, woods and stucco walls providing a warm welcome to the larger living space, which is adorned by bespoke furniture pieces and lighting by Virserius Studio and Imaggo Production.

The hotel also has a vibrant new indoor/outdoor upscale restaurant that will take cues from Central and South America, touting smoked and grill cooking and unique mezcals and tequilas, and the reimagined Wright Bar will offer a posh, classic cocktail bar serving expertly crafted cocktails, distinguished wines and innovative bites inside the Lobby. It is known as the birthplace of the famous Tequila Sunrise cocktail.
