There are plenty of red-carpet-ready hotels to stay in Cannes, but if you want to do it in style, there is only one — the Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes. This luxury Art-Deco style hotel carries a glamorous, cinematic charisma that aptly reflects the sophistication and glamour that Cannes is known for.
Set just a stone’s throw from Palais des Festivals, (site of the Cannes Film Festival), Hotel Majestic is clearly a prime hotel at which to adorn your best outfit, and head across the street to be seen among the celebs, VIPs, and dignitaries of the filmmaking world.
Hotel
Home to one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, the pretty seaside town of Cannes is also renowned for its countless luxurious hotels and boutiques. This resort town on the French Riviera does well in attracting the crème de la crème of the celebrity world, and Hotel Barrière Le Majestic has become the headquarters of this elite crowd during the glamorous film festival.
The luxury five-star hotel has a long list of international stars who have stayed here and continue to do so. Its guest book features myriad A-listers including Robert De Niro, Sylvester Stallone, and Paris Hilton. A short walk through its corridors will reveal just how popular the hotel is with the stars; the corridors are lined with over 2,000 black-and-white portraits of film legends, many of whom have stayed here.
But that’s enough about the celebs, the exquisitely mannered staff at the Barriere Le Majestic welcome and treat all their guests like stars; couples and families alike. Guests can enjoy the breath-taking Mediterranean Sea views, a private beach, four restaurants and five bars; not to mention the best spa you’ll find in Cannes.
Outside, the hotel’s private pool offers the most charming of ways to get away from it all with iconic red parasols and green palm trees for an idyllic escape. Meanwhile, the sea-facing fitness centre will make you live a multisensory journey; with exercise machines fitted with digital apps and screens each guest can create a personalised training programme (which they can follow at home or in any gym around the world equipped with the programme).
The hotel’s private beach, La Plage Le Majestic, is also ideal. Guests can relax and unwind while enjoying cocktails, delicious treats, or choose from conventional and innovative water sports such as wakeboarding, water skiing, and parasailing.
Like most Barrière hotels, Le Majestic Cannes’ Petit VIP has plenty to keep children entertained; from workshops where they can create their own soundtrack or music video to art and photography workshops. Either way, they’ll have plenty of stories to tell after time here.
You can truly enjoy the experience of being a jury member for the Cannes Film Festival, whether or not you have an invitation to the prestigious film festival with the hotel’s private cinema. In true Cannes fashion, you can enjoy your favourite films seated on luxury, velvet armchairs with a small group of people. The concierge service provides a majestic DVD library ranging from adventure films, rom-coms, and blockbusters, all available in various languages or with subtitles.
For those seeking a more luxe experience, The Barrière Ciné-Club offers movie lovers access to the private screen, serving a glass of Champagne and salty appetisers every Sunday evening.
Rooms
Built in the 1920s in classic Art Deco style, the luxury hotel features 350 sound-proof rooms and suites which all offer either panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea or views the city of Cannes through large windows or from a private terrace. Contemporary style furniture with eye-catching colour accents adorn the rooms for a timeless yet modern style.
Nested on the sixth floor is the hotel’s Christian Dior penthouse suite (the only one you’ll find in Cannes). The suite is an exceptional 420 sqm, with a private terrace offering 180° worth of panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea, and has windows directly facing the Cannes Film Festival red carpet.
The suite embodies French luxury and sophisticated Parisian glamour and comes with butler service, two bedrooms (each with its own bathroom, dressing and a private living room), a private swimming pool, a home cinema, lounge and spacious living room and an impressive dining room with Louis XVI style table. You’ll find Christian Dior’s historic pleated design on the red cushions on the sofas, while the master bedroom offers a dreamy walk-in closet.
Wellness
Cannes does fall a bit short in the wellness department, but you’ll find the best spa in town for treatments at Le Majestic’s Spa Diane Barrière, with its A-list-worthy treatment programmes and personalised holistic treatments, designed to relax and restore your body and mind. Guests can choose treatments from Biologique Recherche, with its clinical approach to beauty care, or Ligne St Barths’ beauty treatments reminiscent of the most beautiful islands of the Caribbean.
In a nutshell
The South of France is where you can expect legendary glamour, luxury, and style, and the magnificent Hôtel Le Majestic is a testament to that description. The supremely breath-taking views of the Mediterranean Sea, the cinematic glamour and the staff’s fine, attentive service complete the concept of majestic yet refined luxury. Although the Barrière group has been known to be closely connected to the film industry since the 70s, Le Majestic is a truly special one.
