When Tesla Motors released their first car in 2008 it was like we had all seen a little glimpse into the future with the battery electric vehicle, the Roadster, proving to be a sporty looking number that was about to change the way we viewed electric vehicles.
Named after Serbian American inventor Nikola Tesla (known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current electricity supply system), the company was founded in 2003 by American entrepreneurs Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, with a large investment from Elon Musk giving him chairman status. In 2017, the company changed its name to Tesla, Inc and they are producers of solar panels, home power storage, batteries for cars and, most notably, their electric automobiles.
With an eye on a greener future and an innovative nature, it’s no surprise that many people are wholly impressed with what Tesla have achieved so far, while also waiting patiently to see what’s to come next. Below, we take a look at some of the things that have impressed us so far about this brand.
1. The fact that it’s all electric
There’s no need for hybrid when you have a company that’s dedicated to producing all battery vehicles. This has a knock-on effect on the rest of the car’s make up meaning there’s more space for car owners to store belongings, and also Tesla batteries have about 50 per cent more energy density than other BEV cells meaning their performance and longevity is greater than others.
2. The design
What is great about Tesla cars is that there is no compromise on design. Just because something happens to be functional and practical, it doesn’t mean it should take away from the aesthetic of the car. The Tesla’s sleek exterior looks modern and sporty, and the extra space under the hood allows for that all important extra storage space. To keep the exterior looking as good as new, you should certainly look to invest in improved protection such as Tesla ceramic coating, PPF and window tinting.
3. A positive step for the environment
Exhaust emissions, the rising cost of fuel, the reliance on fossil fuels – all of this is rather redundant when it comes to all-electric vehicles. According to an impact report by Tesla: ‘In 2020, Tesla customers helped accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy by avoiding 5.0 million metric tons of CO2e emissions.’ A pretty impressive difference to be making on the world, especially in today’s climate.
4. The innovativeness
Fully autonomous driving, better batteries with greater charging speed, solely battery electric vehicles that also look like an enviable car to drive in, these are just a few ways that the people of Tesla use their innovativeness to produce these refined vehicles.
5. Ease of use
Yes, drivers have to wait a while for their cars to fully charge, but once they’re ready to go, they’re pretty easy to use, especially when it comes to the display panel. A 17-inch centre-mounted display screen provides drivers with touch controls negating the need for an array of dials and knobs that only serve to confuse.
6. Less time at the garage
With wireless updates and less parts to go wrong, one huge benefit of owning a Tesla is that you’ll find yourself spending less time at the garage. Non-electric powered cars have hundreds of moving parts and require regular maintenance in order to keep them in good working order, which can be costly and time-consuming and a general pain for those who drive regularly. With just 17 moving parts, according to the company, and being controlled by electronics, this means that many amendments can be undertaken via a wireless update.
7. Safe and highly rated models
At the end of the day, when you get in your car you want to know that the money you’ve spent on it has been put to something worthy. With high safety ratings (the Tesla Model X earned a five-star safety rating in every category and subcategory by the NHTSA) and experts reviews – the Tesla Model 3 for example received 5/5 ratings from What Car? and Auto Express and nine out of ten from Carwow – it’s safe to say that it’s worth it.
