After the Audi R8 LMS debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the GT3 sports car will be available for customers to order with production launching on September 21st by quattro GmbH, a subsidiary of AUDI AG.
After the GT3 win at the Nurburgring 24-Hour race followed by two podium places at the Spa 24 hours Audi have developed the Audi R8 LMS to ensure it’s customer ready. The chassis of the production model and the race cars are manufactured at the same facilities to implement their extensive carryover purpose including approximately 50% of the parts being identical for the road-going high-performance sports car and the race car.
“Since 2009, Audi has been producing GT3 race cars for customers around the world. In the new R8 LMS, we’re again offering our customers an absolutely competitive concept,” says Romolo Liebchen, Head of Audi Sport customer racing.
Delivering 585 hp customers can order their race race immediately at the price of 359,000 Euros (plus VAT) whilst Audi Sport customer racing offers the car including a start and parts package for 398,000 Euros (plus VAT).
Deliveries of the Audi R8 LMS will commence on October 26th whilst Audi has scheduled production capacities for 45 GT3 race cars for the coming motorsport season by the end of March 2016. So with that the Audi R8 LMS corresponds to the GT3 regulations as of 2016-2018 and therefore sets the benchmark of safety standards.
