The automobile industry has had a roller coaster ride in the field of design, technology, aesthetics and performance over the years, and it continues today. From hefty designs to the new-age two-seaters, cars have evolved and perfected the art of luxury and design. Porsche is a prominent name that has immensely contributed to the car manufacturing industry from innovating better ways to contemporary designs and accessories.
To reminisce the company’s history, the Porsche’s Heritage Design strategy aspires to bring the glory of the yesteryear to the modern times by re-interpreting exclusive 911 models with design elements from the 1950s through to the 1980s. These special models introduce the ‘lifestyle’ dimension, representing particularly emotive concepts with references to history within Porsche’s product strategy.
The first of four collector’s pieces; Porsche 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition indulges in the boldness and novelty of the 1950s and early 60s.
“With the Heritage Design models, we are evoking memories of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s in customers and fans alike. No brand can translate these elements into the modern-day as well as Porsche and, in this way, we are fulfilling the wishes of our customers. We are also establishing a new product line that represents the lifestyle dimension in our product strategy with these exclusive special editions,” says Oliver Blume, chairman of the executive board of Porsche AG.
True to the spirit of Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the designer of the 911 and founder of Porsche Design, the historical exterior and interior design elements have been reinterpreted and combined with the latest technology in a special limited edition from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. Available to order now and in dealerships from autumn 2020, Porsche is making only 992 examples, which will be built with matching internal model series code.
The first Heritage Design model is equipped with the latest 992 generation 911 Targa’s technology for chassis, assistance systems and infotainment. Powered by a high-tech 331 kW (450 PS; 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition: Fuel consumption combined 10.3 – 9.9 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined 235 – 227 g/km) bi-Turbo boxer engine which, in combination with the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, accelerates the 911 Targa (with Launch Control) from 0-100 km/h in less than 3.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 304 km/h.
The Porsche 911 Targa is available in five exterior colours, but we love the cherry metallic combined with gold logos that creates an authentic look in true 50’s style. The exterior features iconic and stylish livery in white, while the spear-shaped graphic motor sports elements on the front wings are another nostalgic moment of the Porsche competition history.
To commemorate the Porsche 356 reaching the 100,000 kilometres mark, a seal of quality will grace the rear of all four Porsche Heritage Design models. The car has intricate details that link the Porsche of the past to the Porsche of the present by the 1963 Porsche Crest on the bonnet, steering wheel, wheel centres and vehicle key while also highlighting the modern times with the new model’s standard 20/21-inch Carrera exclusive design wheels and classic-look brake callipers finished in black.
The fashion trends imminent during the 1950s reflect on the interiors of the 911 Targa. The exclusive two-tone leather interior combining Bordeaux red leather with OLEA club leather in Atacama beige or black leather with OLEA club leather in Atacama beige is like a dream come true. A metal badge on the trim panel of the dashboard records the individual limited-edition number. Corduroy on seats and door trims, green-illuminated rev counter and stopwatch, the perforated roof-liner in micro-fibre fabric and extensive Exclusive Manufaktur leather trim do justice to the emotive spirit of the design.
The fun doesn’t end there, Porsche is known for making the experience exclusive and memorable. Every Porsche 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition is accompanied by a 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition chronograph. A high-quality timepiece made exclusively for the 911 Targa owner, this is a watch with elegant and clean design and, just like the car and is limited to 992 units.
Similar to the car, the designers have drawn their inspiration for many of its details from the legendary Porsche 356 and iconic Porsche 911 Targa. The design of its watch face, the white second hand and phosphorus green rings depict the car’s speedometer and rev counter, while the hours on the watch face are inscribed in a font that is deeply characteristic of Porsche. The watch strap is made of genuine Porsche interior leather and has 911 embossed to pay tribute to the iconic sports car.
The car starts at $181,950, which is $45,000 more than the standard Targa 4S. With three more editions to grace us, The Porsche 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition is just the beginning of the fun 911 ride.
