New car showcase: Lamborghini Huracán EVO RWD Spyder

By James Wong   |

If you’re looking for the dreamiest ride to celebrate upcoming glorious European weather, and hopefully the end of lockdown, then look no further. The Italian supercar maker had just launched its long awaited Huracán EVO RWD Spyder, and it’s open-air driving fun and freedom at its best. Like the Huracán EVO RWD it has a powerful V10 engine, capable of 610 hp (449 kW) and 560 Nm of torque, and accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds with a peak speed of 324 km/h. And that’s only the beginning of it.

Chairman and chief executive officer of Automobili Lamborghini, Stefano Domenicali, said: “The Huracán EVO Rear-Wheel Drive Spyder doubles the driving fun, delivering raw driving pleasure with the opportunity to celebrate life outside. The driver is perfectly in touch with Lamborghini’s engineering heritage, experiencing the feedback and engagement from the set-up of a rear-wheel drive car where electronic intrusion is minimised, while enjoying the sense of freedom and spirit of life that only open-top driving provides.”

The Huracán EVO Rear-Wheel Drive Spyder is specially engineered as an instinctive driver’s car

Let’s take a closer look at this new model. You will find, exclusively, an all-new front splitter, vertical fins, diffuser, and a high-gloss rear bumper. It is specially engineered as an instinctive driver’s car. Your options include an ANIMA button on the steering wheel which puts the driver in control of different driving modes, with the P-TCS calibrated to suit. STRADA provides stability and safety in any condition by minimising rear-wheel slippage, and proactively managing torque delivery on low-adhesion surfaces.

In SPORT mode, the driver can experience joys of the drift; allowing the rear wheels to slide and skate during acceleration, with torque limited when over steer angles increase rapidly so the driver can stabilise and control the car. CORSA mode optimises its traction and agility when exiting a corner in high-performance conditions, maximising dynamics and speed.

Carbon fibre sports seats accommodate two people

Inside, you have an awesome 8.4” touch screen in the centre console, which controls the car’s functions and provides connectivity for phone calls, Internet and Apple CarPlay. Stay tuned for a welcome addition coming in late 2020 – Amazon Alexa will be incorporated allowing for in-car voice control. You will enjoy such tech from the comfort of the carbon fibre sports seats, which accommodate just two, but are roomy all the same.

Exterior wise, it comes with a set of 19” wheels (you can opt for 20” too) wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tyres, with ventilated and cross-drilled steel brakes standard. The aluminium and thermoplastic resin body sits on a lightweight hybrid chassis in aluminium and carbon fibre, with a dry weight of 1,509 kg and a weight-to-power ratio of 2.47 kg/hp. Front/rear weight distribution of 40/60, with double wishbone suspension with overlapped quadrilaterals and passive shock absorbers, providing optimised driver feedback.

The standout new feature is, of course, the soft-top roof. This operates at up to 50 km/h (and you can even stow it within 17 seconds at this very speed). Doing away with the roof means you get the full Lamborghini experience. It’s all about that deep howl down the open road.

The Huracán EVO RWD Spyder is both a driver’s car and a lifestyle choice, complemented by limitless colour and trim options through Lamborghini Ad Personam. The suggested UK retail price before tax is £151,100. For more information, visit lamborghini.com.
