Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the new CLE 53 4MATIC+ Cabriolet, bringing the thrill of open-air driving together with high-performance engineering. This model joins the SL Roadster as the second open-top performance car from Mercedes-AMG, offering an exceptional blend of luxury, advanced technology, and dynamic driving capabilities.
Powerful performance
At the heart of the CLE 53 4MATIC+ Cabriolet is a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine with twin turbocharging and an additional electric compressor. This setup delivers an impressive 330 kW (449 hp) and 560 Nm of torque, with an overboost feature providing up to 600 Nm for short bursts. The engine is supported by an integrated starter generator, which adds an extra 17 kW (23 hp) of power and 205 Nm of torque. The starter generator also powers the 48-volt electrical system, enhancing overall efficiency.
Advanced drivetrain and suspension
The CLE 53 4MATIC+ Cabriolet features the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission, which offers quick and responsive gear changes. The fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system ensures optimal traction and driving stability under various conditions. Active rear-axle steering further enhances agility, reducing the turning circle at low speeds and improving stability at higher speeds.
Exterior design
The exterior of the CLE 53 4MATIC+ Cabriolet is marked by AMG’s distinctive design elements. The wide, flared front and rear wheel arches, coupled with the AMG-specific A-shaped radiator grille, give the car a powerful stance. The front features large air intakes and DIGITAL LIGHT headlights with blue illumination, adding to its dynamic appearance. The rear is characterised by smooth surfaces, two-part LED lights, and round double tailpipe trims integrated into the rear skirt. The optional Pro Performance Package includes a high-gloss black spoiler lip and additional sporty accents.
Luxurious interior
Inside, the CLE 53 4MATIC+ Cabriolet offers AMG-exclusive features and advanced technology. The 12.3-inch fully digital driver display and 11.9-inch central display provide clear and customizable information. The central display can tilt to prevent reflections when the top is open. Dynamic ambient lighting with 64 colours enhances the cabin’s atmosphere, creating a stylish wraparound effect.
The leather seats feature a special coating to reflect sunlight and keep them cooler in direct sunlight, ensuring comfort even in warmer weather. AMG Performance seats, available with the Pro Performance Package, provide additional lateral support and visual accents with vertical openings. The driver display offers three styles: Classic, Sport, and AMG-exclusive Supersport, the latter featuring a central round tachometer and driver-focused horizontal displays.
Enhanced connectivity and comfort
The CLE 53 4MATIC+ Cabriolet is equipped with extensive standard equipment, including the fabric acoustic top, AIRCAP, and AIRSCARF systems. AIRCAP consists of a wind deflector on the windscreen and an automatic wind deflector behind the rear headrests, reducing turbulence for more comfortable open-top driving. AIRSCARF® provides neck-level heating, making the car suitable for year-round driving.
The fabric acoustic top is available in black, red, or grey, and opens or closes in just 20 seconds at speeds up to 60 km/h. The electric luggage compartment separator ensures easy access to the trunk, which offers 385 litres of space (295 litres with the roof open) and can be expanded by folding down the rear seats.
Safety and structural integrity
The CLE 53 4MATIC+ Cabriolet is designed with a high level of structural safety, featuring targeted body reinforcements and a rollover protection system. The rigid A-pillars and eleven airbags, including a new centre airbag between the front seats and head airbags for rear passengers, provide comprehensive protection. The PRE-SAFE system prepares both the occupants and the vehicle for an imminent collision, enhancing safety.
Driving modes and handling
The AMG DYNAMIC SELECT system offers five driving programmes: Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Individual, allowing drivers to adjust the car’s characteristics to suit their preferences. The AMG DYNAMICS handling control system, integrated into the driving programmes, adjusts the control strategies of the ESP and all-wheel drive based on the driving situation. The AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension, with its sporty damper tuning and adaptive adjustable damping, provides excellent handling and ride comfort. The three-stage AMG parameter steering adapts to the selected driving programme, offering precise feedback and reduced steering effort.
Pro performance package
The Pro Performance Package adds even more sporty features to the CLE 53 4MATIC+ Cabriolet. Highlights include the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS Package with RACE START and RACE driving programmes, red brake callipers, and active engine mounts that balance comfort and sportiness. The AMG Performance steering wheel in carbon fibre/MICROCUT microfibre features buttons for quick control of driving programmes and settings.
