No. 11 Pimlico Road is one of Pimlico’s most iconic all-day bar venues. Enjoying an enviable location within walking distance of both Sloane Square and Victoria tube stations, it is an excellent option for both residents of this glamorous borough and those visiting the capital from further afield. Gastro-pub-weary individuals particularly delight in its award-winning design since there is no hint of a formulaic decor or predictable colour palette, while gourmands just have to look at the menu and smile.
Let’s first update you on the beautiful interior design, which provides the perfect backdrop for relaxed eating and drinking in a setting that is more home than high street. In one area, floor to ceiling tiled walls serve as a classic framework for the marble cold-counter from which freshly baked morning pastries, crostini (think mortadella and pistachio or spiced crab and avocado) and charcuterie are dispensed throughout the day.
An elegant zinc-topped bar takes centre stage and an eclectic mix of seating, with a mid-century leaning, taps into Pimlico’s passion for design. Tables topped with zinc, wood and marble of varying sizes are set against a fresh palette of raspberry, eau-de-Nil and grey walls with sumptuous soft furnishings for banquettes and cushions all helping to differentiate the space from any cookie-cutter makeovers.
No. 11 Pimlico Road is however, most celebrated for its focus on fresh, delectable, great value food and delightful drinks throughout the day. Visitors – be they feeling virtuous or a little greedier – can kick start their day with options ranging from house-made granola with organic farm yoghurt, fruit compote and wild flower honey to Nº 1 Eggs Royal with smoked salmon, house-made hollandaise, avocado and spinach on toasted sourdough. Lunch and dinner menus are similarly diverse, catering to appetites both little (think coconut poached chicken salad with avocado, nashi pear, watercress and yuzu dressing) and large (the rib eye steak with house made fries, watercress and chimichurri is mouth-watering). Those with a sweet tooth can round off their meal in style – we recommend the moreish maple banana toffee crumble and banana ice-cream.
The cocktail menu focuses on a selection of signature cocktails using fresh English ingredients along with classic cocktails injected with No. 11 personality. Using squeezed juices and seasonal fruit along with house made syrups, sherbets and spirit infusions, the cocktails range from Classic Bellinis and Bloody Marys to Pineapple & Sage Mojitos and Elderflower and Earl Grey Fizz. We particularly love the hot cocktails – new to the menu this winter – such as Pear and Ginger Toddy and a Hot Peanut Butter Rum complete with Spiced Doorly’s, Cointreau, house made Peanut Butter syrup and Fees Whiskey bitters. Perfect for getting snugged up during the cosy winter evenings!
There is a versatile, elegant event space on the first floor which provides a stylish, private venue for any occasion, with room for 80 standing or 40 seated. An on-site events team offers a bespoke booking service – so if you’re still looking for a Christmas party venue, look no further!
The Verdict
We sent our food and drink editor Natasha Heard to No. 11 Pimlico Road to test out the excellent cocktail menu. This is what she said:
“With 21 cocktails to choose from you will be hard pressed not to find something to your liking to spark up your Saturday night. From an Aperol Spritz to a Pineapple and Sage Mojito to a Chocolate Manhattan, there are an array of sweet, savoury and zingy creations to choose from at No.11. The atmosphere is buzzing and the cocktails are well priced – my favourites here are the refreshing and fruity Marmalade Champagne Cocktail, the rich and smooth Espresso Martini, the fizzy and fresh Classic Bellini (served with Champagne or Prosecco) and the warming, Christmas inspiring, Hot Peanut Butter Rum.”
