The 15th, 16th, 17th July welcomed a very special guest to the Thames river – The John Walker & Sons Voyager – which docked in London as part of its epic global journey which celebrates the ocean voyages that took Johnnie Walker from the four corners of Scotland to the four corners of the world. To join in, and even enhance the celebration, Le Pont de la Tour has offered diners a bespoke, limited edition Johnnie Walker inspired menu at the restaurant from 8th July- 21st.
Chef Tom Cook, in collaboration with Johnnie Walker Brand Ambassador Colin Dunn, created a luxurious three course menu that compliments the glamorous presence of the yacht, which guests at the restaurant were able to view during its stay.
The menu started off with ‘Johnnie Walker Platinum Label’ Cured Organic Salmon, Potato Blinis, Crème Fraiche and Herb Salad. Although some would consider the cured salmon a curiosity, the exceptional presentation of the dish alone were able to make the doubts vanish. Each taste throughout the dish continue to complement one another, and serve as a nice addition to the tender salmon, which combined was the perfect amount for the starter plate.
After the starter came the main course, which without a doubt, was presented in an elegant display on the plate. The dish was Roasted Yorkshire Duck Breast A L’Orange, Confit Leg, and Braised Puy Lentils. The main dish proved to compliment the size of the starter, and ended up being quite filling with its mix of robust flavours and textures. It had a strong and consistent taste throughout the course, and leaved no room for disappointment.
To finish off the evening in any other way but a chocolate cigar would’ve rendered completely out of place for this meal. The dessert was indeed a “Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve” Dark Chocolate Mousse “Cigar.” The dessert was served with a dram of Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve, and there hasn’t been a better pair since salt and pepper. The flavour combination proved to be a perfect harmony of compliments and delicacy rarely found upon dining out.
Overall the menu proved to be full of surprises, and exceeded expectations by more than ever expected. Getting the opportunity to experience this limited menu is one that no reader should surpass. Whether it peaks the interest of those interested in food, whisky or even those curious of the story behind Johnnie Walker & Sons Voyager, Le Pont de la Tour has outdone itself pleasing all audiences.
