Following the success of its first London outpost, Danish steakhouse KöD has launched its second site in the capital’s fashionable and food-loving district of Soho.

KöD Soho launched on August 19 based on the same successful format of its sister restaurant, KöD City on Devonshire Square, which opened in March 2023, but with a few new additions and differences.

The name KöD means meat in Danish and is pronounced similarly to ‘cool’. As the name suggests, guests can expect the highest quality, grass fed, minimum 35 day aged steaks. In addition to this, diners can tuck into tasty treats like langoustine tortelloni, Tri-Tip tacos, some delectable sauces and sides to pair with the range of steaks, a selection of steak alternatives such as pan roasted salmon or grilled cauliflower steak, and desserts including vanilla crème brulèe and fried apple pie.

KöD is from the Denmark based group DiningSix and KöD City was the seventh opening under this brand name, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. There are currently three sites in Denmark – two in Copenhagen and one in Aarhus as well as three Norway premises in Frogner and Posthallen, Oslo and another in Stavanger.

Behind the brand is London based founding partner Morten P. Ortwed who, along with five friends, launched KöD in Denmark in 2014 before expanding into Norway and moving to the UK to oversee the UK developments and launch KöD City.  Running the kitchen operations for all UK KöD restaurants is James Durrant who previously worked for Gordon Ramsay Holdings and The Stafford Hotel.

Morten’s wife, Catrine Ortwed is also heavily involved in the design for KöD Soho and is a part of the restaurant management team, making this business a family affair.

Morten’s hospitality career started waiting tables but an opportunity to take on the franchise of a cafe, restaurant and nightclub with a group of friends 2009 led to the creation of DiningSix which now has eight successful brands including 22 restaurants across several countries.

Not only has Morten brought a successful brand to London but with it he brings ‘the Danish way’ – an absence of hierarchy on the restaurant floor meaning he is often found at the pass, waiting on tables or serving drinks.  Seemingly he’s doing something right as KöD London has become a desirable place of work and runs a waiting list for employment.

KöD City, on Devonshire Square launched with little fanfare and has built up a loyal following, particularly for the (renowned in Denmark) Sunday roast which at £39 for limitless top quality steak is excellent value.
