Restaurant Review: Greenwood, Victoria in London

By Georgie Bentley-Buckle   |

To find a sports bar that also caters to those who aren’t necessarily interested in glaring at a screen with a pint in hand all afternoon is admittedly challenging. Not only catering to sports enthusiasts, Greenwood – found within the new Nova complex within Victoria – offers high design, vintage inspired interiors, classy cocktails and a creative menu with a new Sunday bottomless brunch.

Complete with dishes designed for good times and accompanied by free-flowing drinks for the ultimate, easy-like-Sunday dining experience; brunchers can work their way through this three-course bottomless menu which is a balance of familiar favourites such as Eggs Benedict and avocado on toast with pumpkin seeds to the Greenwood’s inventive additions such as Marmite hollandaise on a toasted crumpet, topped with a poached egg.

Others suited to please all tastes each Sunday include hazelnut granola with almond milk, blueberry compote with chia, shorthorn double cheeseburger with pickles, a crispy buttermilk chicken burger as well as stone-baked pizzas and an array of toppings fresh from the in-house clay oven. To finish, admittedly calorific desserts for cheat day include the Greenwood’s fried apple pie with cinnamon ice cream or the Oreo cheesecake with blondie crumb. Bottomless beverage options to carry those from start to all the way through to dessert are endless Prosecco bubbles, Mimosa’s, classic bloody Mary’s or generous glasses of their house wine.

A capacious ground floor with retro touches allowing for both indoor or Al Fresco dining and a large, wrap around bar lined with attractive bar stools; the Greenwood becomes even more of an unexpected Sunday spot with the addition of an in-house barber. Upstairs is a dedicated and premium sports lounge which also includes, for the competitive types, the latest pub game sweeping the city – shuffleboard with retro pinball and American 8-ball pool.

Describing themselves as Victoria’s newest and largest pub – the Greenwood adapts itself to a variation of occasions and could even be described as a chameleon of venues. Conscious of more than one audience and flexible to sports spectators and those just looking for a good time within sophisticated surroundings; despite a popular city trend, their new bottomless brunch trumps other venues – predominantly in terms of really understanding what London weekenders are all collectively looking for as one.
