One of London’s finest new Japanese restaurants to grace the streets of Mayfair, Sakagura London celebrated their first anniversary with the launch of a new izakaya style menu – inspired by the drinking houses of Japan. A new concept that is more welcoming and encourages a relaxed, fun experience; the Heddon Street restaurant has a foundation inspired by a Japanese method of hospitality called omotenashi.
A combination of both small and large plates, dishes that occupy Sakagura London’s new menu include hosomaki and uramaki sushi, an impressive selection of sashimi (from salmon to seabass) and tempura options such as Asian king prawns, soft shell crab and North Pacific scallops and Robata grill options. Hopping on the trend for Hawaiian poke bowls with both salmon and fresh vegetables, other larger rice bowls to complement the izakaya style menu include an assortment of donburi rice bowls and gozen bento sets – each served with a traditional kaiseki tray, steamed white koshihikari rice, wafu salada, tofu and wakame miso soup.
A pinnacle to this menu, Sakagura London still serve their firm favourite – Australian Wagyu; the ultimate beef with superb marbling. With tender and succulent flavours, this favoured meat cut is served within a bento box, charcoal grilled or barbecued on the individual yakiniku barbecues. A wide selection of sake from some of the best artisan breweries in Japan also complement these friendly dishes. From Gekkeikan to Choya and a unique range of Japanese inspired sake cocktails, diners can also select from Japanese whisky, beers or wines by the glass and bottle.
For lunch and dinner, prices start at £11 for Gozen Bento Sets, £10 for new Donburi poke bowls, £10 for a selection of three Tempura, £3 for Jumbo Yakitori and £13 for grilled Robata. Available every day from 12 to 3pm for lunch and 5-11pm for dinner, the menu can be booked in advance by calling 0203 405 7230 or emailing the reservations team the reservations@sakaguralondon.com. Walk-ins are also welcome.
A collaboration between several high-profile stake holders who are in turn marking high class Japanese lifestyle on central London diners; Sakagura and its personalities came together last year as one Japanese visionary. A tribute to Washoku, a Japanese every day style of cooking that is also an intangible UNESCO recognition; from the sake to the sushi and even the seafood based desserts, the significance of Sakagura and its offerings are designed to tempt, educate and delight.
