Suffer from a food intolerance or allergy? This new app might be the best thing you download today

New app Spoon Guru opens up food choice for millions of Britons with multiple food allergies, intolerances as well as those with lifestyle diets.

One in five Britons now experience a food intolerance (according to British Dietetic Association) and while many are using technology to help them manage their diet, until now there’s never been a single app dedicated to offering food options for those who deal with intolerances. From April 2016, the new Spoon Guru app, initially available for iOS (iPad, iPhone) will offer the most comprehensive choice of ingredients, products and recipes for those living with multiple allergies, food intolerances or unique dietary preferences.

Whether you follow a gluten-free, milk-free, vegan, paleo, nut-free, shellfish-free, low sugar, or organic diet, etc, Spoon Guru caters for thousands of allergy combinations. Simply tap to create a personal food profile by setting preferences against a list of more than 20 food intolerances and lifestyle diets. Then Spoon Guru immediately searches hundreds of thousands of food sources, curating ingredients, recipes and supermarket products exactly to the preferences of the user. By analysing ingredients in detail and then matching results, Spoon Guru delivers food choices that cautious eaters can eat, rather than telling them what they can’t eat.

Developed by British entrepreneurs, technologists and nutritionists, Spoon Guru is simple and intuitive as well as comprehensive and accurate. Analysing ingredients from its own database, the web and product manufacturers, it selects a completely tailored range of suitable product choices and recipes, learning as it is used.

For conscious eaters, who typically take up to 40% longer to shop, Spoon Guru’s barcode scanner speed-ups the grocery shopping process, enabling users to quickly scan products for allergens, instead of having to read the labels.

Markus Stripf, co-founder and CEO of Spoon Guru says: “We are all unique and so are our allergies and dietary preferences. Someone with an egg allergy may also be a vegetarian who prefers a low-sugar diet. No matter how complex the need, Spoon Guru is designed to find food that’s just right for that person. We want to focus on what you can eat, rather than what you can’t.”

Spoon Guru’s Nutritionist, Sara Peterson (ANutr) adds, “There are millions of Brits who suffer from allergies, hypersensitivity to particular foods or have specific health related dietary requirements and we are still trying to make sense of all of the information out there. Spoon Guru will become a trusted food resource for people with allergies, intolerances and unique dietary preferences.”

The Spoon Guru app is available to download free from ITunes. For further information visit: www.spoon.guru or follow @spoonguruUK on Twitter.
