The finest wines to enjoy this spring and summer

We have a great selection of bold, rich to light reds; refreshing and aromatic whites; celebratory Champagnes and sparkling wines; and rosés to sip with lighter dishes in the sun.

By Natasha Heard   |

With lots to celebrate this spring, from Easter weekend to King Charles’s coronation to simply the fact that it’s now spring and lighter evenings are here and warmer weather is on the horizon, there’s no better way to do it, in our opinion, than with a glass of wine in hand.

Whether you fancy a refreshing glass of bubbly for a royal toast, or a classic red or white to complement your favourite Easter dishes, we have a great selection of bold, rich to light reds; refreshing and aromatic whites; celebratory Champagnes and sparkling wines; and rosés to sip with lighter dishes in the sun.

Weinhaus Pinot Gris Urmeer Löss 2021

Millions of years ago an ancient sea (Urmeer) used to cover the Rhinehessen region of Germany. When this dried up it left a fertile and mineral soil with excellent water retention and warming properties. The minerality of the soil and the relatively dry climate help to create wines which captivate the senses, including this Weinhaus Pinot Gris.

This fruity and elegant Pinot Gris has zingy pear flavours, subtle nutty notes and is sharp and crispy. Enjoy with fish, white meat dishes including chicken and also vegetarian dishes to get the best pairing.

Rustenberg Wild Ferment Unwooded Chardonnay

Arguably the most famous wine-producing region in South Africa, the vineyards of Stellenbosch take advantage of the area’s topography and vineyards sit on the lower slopes of the Helderberg and Simonsberg ranges.

Rustenberg is a well-known producer of premium Chardonnay, and this Unwooded Chardonnay is their first unoaked one. The aim was to create a wine that, without the influence of oak, expresses the varietal character and generosity of Chardonnay when the finest fruit is vinified for this purpose. Lees ageing adds palate weight and complements the wine’s citrus fruit profile – this is a medium bodied wine with classic citrus, pear and pineapple characters – to create a wine that can be enjoyed on its own or with food. Drink sooner rather than later with seafood, poultry and salads.
