The former rum and tobacco warehouse at Liverpool’s Stanley Dock has been lovingly restored into a momentous hotel, the Titanic. The basement, which exposes the building’s historic red-brick walls resembling a subterranean cave, is home to the hotel’s spa, Maya Blue Wellness, and features a sauna, steam room, luxury foot bath and hydrotherapy pool.
Maya Blue Wellness has recently partnered with ESPA, an English skincare brand that prides itself on its natural formulas and holistic techniques to improve the body and mind. The brand’s focus is on an inner calm alongside skin health to create the most innovative, natural and effective products and treatments.
I visited the Maya Blue Wellness to try out ESPA’s 55 minute Inner Calm Massage. The treatment started with a smelling session of the brand’s signature body oils to allow me to pick a favourite. I opted for the soothing body oil which was poured into a bowl under the massage bed so that the aroma could be smelt throughout.
The aim of the Inner Calm Massage is to sooth anxiety, invoke profound relaxation and nourish the skin. Genuine care was take to address my individual needs. The therapist discussed and focussed on the areas of pain and tension that I felt and checked that the pressure applied was satisfactory. The massage released all muscular tension and left me feeling energised and balanced.
Afterwards, I spent an hour making use of the sauna and steam room and relaxing with herbal tea at the pool side.
Pre-booking is required to access the thermal suite and are subject to availability. Thermal suite access is for over 18’s only. It is not advised during pregnancy and is not included when you book an express treatment.
