As we near 2025, the demand for luxurious, personalised spaces within the home continues to grow, with kitchens and bathrooms often taking centre stage when homeowners are remodelling.
With this in mind, Mike Whitfield, luxury interior expert at LUSSO, has revealed the trends that are set to dominate across kitchens and bathrooms next year.
Bold backsplashes
Bold backsplashes will be weaving their way into the kitchen in 2025, offering those who are looking for a change a way to make a strong visual statement while enhancing the functionality and aesthetic appeal of their culinary spaces.
Mike explains: “Homeowners are increasingly seeking ways to express their personal style and creativity, and using tiles as backsplashes is a great way to make a strong visual statement. Characterised by intricate patterns, diverse materials, and bold colours, backsplashes can serve as statement pieces that transform a kitchen’s overall look and feel.
“Bold tones such as green and pink are trending colours in kitchens next year and can be incorporated through mosaic tiles including kit kat, metro, baton, and linear which can be laid out in various patterns such as herringbone and brick bond to create an interesting appeal.”
Earthy kitchens
With a 1,000 monthly search volume for olive green kitchen on Google, it’s no surprise that earthy kitchens will be popular in 2025. This trend reflects a growing desire for sustainability, comfort, and wellness in home design.
Mike advises how to introduce the trend into your home: “It’s all about creating a warm, inviting, and organic space that emphasises natural materials and a connection to nature. An earthy colour palette can be incorporated through warm neutrals such as taupe, beige, and soft browns as well as sage and olive greens to enhance the natural aesthetic. Or, for those who prefer a darker, moodier feel, rich blues and charcoal greys add depth and sophistication, especially when paired with metal accents.”
Following the rise in earthy tones for kitchens, sales of LUSSO’s Cullinan Gunmetal Black Undermount Workstation Sink have increased by 28 per cent this year.
Mike highlights the connection between the two: “A gunmetal finish seamlessly fits with an earthy colour palette, as it embraces deep, muted tones with warm undertones of stainless steel. The reflective surface of gunmetal kitchen appliances highlights the organic textures of wood and stone that are often found in earthy kitchens.”
Burgundy kitchens
Burgundy is becoming a prominent colour in contemporary kitchen design, with searches for burgundy kitchen up by around 200 per cent on Pinterest. The deep shade of red with purplish undertones has a great ability to add depth and character to kitchens.
Mike explains how it can be incorporated into your space: “Burgundy can be used as a bold statement through tiles or kitchen cabinets. The rich hue seamlessly integrates with a variety of design styles including traditional and rustic.
“Introducing aged bronze accents into burgundy kitchens is an emerging trend that combines rich, warm tones with sophisticated metallic finishes. Pairing the tone with aged bronze brass accents and kitchen appliances will enhance the warmth and dark appeal of the colour, whilst allowing them to take centre stage.”
Rustic bathrooms
A blend of timeless charm and modern innovations, as we approach 2025, rustic bathrooms are expanding with focal features such as reclaimed wood being seen across vanity units, shelves, and bathroom accessories such as bath caddies. Since its launch back in April 2024, LUSSO’s Bali Acacia Wood Bath Caddy Shelf has increased in sales by a healthy 66 per cent.
But, if you want to make a rustic bathroom really stand out, the secret is introducing metal accents. Mike shares how rustic bathrooms and matte black pair together: “Metal accents complement neutral and warm tones as well as wooden and stone materials beautifully. Incorporating black accents into a rustic bathroom design can create a striking balance between warmth and sophistication.
“The juxtaposition of black’s modern appeal combined with rustic elements results in a timeless and inviting space. Utilising black hooks, towel bars, and shelving can accentuate exposed wooden beams or brick walls, enhancing the rustic aesthetic whilst introducing a modern flair.”
Wellness-centric bathrooms
Creating wellness-centric spaces is becoming increasingly sought after as homeowners seek to transform their bathrooms into personal sanctuaries that promote relaxation and mindfulness, according to Houzz’s 2023 State of the Global Home Report. By introducing spa-like amenities and calming aesthetics, such as stone baths and tranquil colours like seafoam and terracotta, these spaces not only enhance aesthetic appeal but also contribute significantly to boosting wellbeing.
Mike explains: “Stone baths are a great way to create a serene sanctuary as they can retain heat well, allowing for extended soaking periods that can relieve muscle tension and promote circulation. The natural texture of stone connects to the earth, fostering a sense of tranquillity.
“Calming colour schemes, aromatherapy options, and sound systems are also being incorporated to enhance relaxation and promote a sense of calm. Seafoam green evokes the serenity of the ocean, promoting relaxation and reducing stress. It creates a fresh and rejuvenating ambience, and can be introduced through basins, baths or tiles.”
Small full bathrooms
Small full bathroom idea searches are up by a whopping 6,500 per cent year-on-year on Pinterest, showcasing the rising demand for this trend as we move into 2025, as homeowners with smaller spaces are looking for inspiration to maximise their space.
Mike comments: “As small bathrooms can be difficult to design, small full bathrooms will remain a perma-trend for years to come, as those who are renovating or designing from scratch look to create full spaces that don’t compromise on quality.
“Shower niches are a great way to add visual points in small bathrooms, as they provide a space to style your bathroom essentials while creating an aesthetically pleasing appearance, whereas stone basins are a great addition for those that want to create a full appearance. Basins that include wall hung designs create the illusion of more space and allow extra room to style other decor pieces. If there is enough space, compact bathtubs can help to create a cosy atmosphere and comfortable bathing experience.
“Light colours enhance the perception of space, create a clean and calming environment and pair well with various design styles. White surfaces reflect light, making a small bathroom feel brighter and more open, and should be introduced in spaces that aren’t as naturally well-lit.”
Luxe marble bathrooms
Marble, long celebrated for its natural beauty and durability, continues to dominate high-end bathroom designs, evolving with modern aesthetics and technological advancements. This trend enhances the visual appeal of a bathroom but also significantly increases a property’s value by creating a unique space like no other.
Crafted from a single block, most natural marble decor pieces are completely different to one another, meaning each home featuring marble is unique. As the market trends towards high-quality finishes, marble stands out as a key material that enhances both beauty and functionality.
Mike explains why marble will continue to be a focal trend in 2025: “Marble continues to thrive due to its timeless appeal, maintaining its status as a symbol of luxury. The unique stone can be styled through basins, natural stone baths, vanity units, and tiles.
“Each piece of marble offers a one-of-a-kind feel and distinctive character in homes. Precious marbles include Tiffany, Rosa Norwegian, and Jade Green which showcase intricate veining, distinctive colour variation and a smooth, natural surface. These rare marbles instantly create a statement of luxe defined by their unique characteristics.”
LUSSO recently worked with David Gandy, interviewing him about the two-year-long renovation project of his family home which he carried out with his wife, Stephanie. As part of the remodel, David incorporated the luxe marble bathroom trend in the form of the Vernante Arabescato marble vanity unit (1400mm) and Luxe Brushed Gold Floor Standing Bath Tap.
