Design build company makes dreams a reality with fully integrated approach – bringing luxury to life in even the most unlikely of places

By Melanie Kruger   |

They say that change is a good thing, and by and large, it rings true. But when it comes to renovating your home, or completely transforming an unused space, the task that looms ahead can seem daunting. From the initial concept to the design and build process itself, it’s a lot to entrust anyone with, and the need to involve multiple companies in bringing your dream to fruition – from architects to contractors and interior designers – means that there is plenty that could potentially go wrong at each stage if things are not handled with care.

Of course, many will tell you that the stress is worth it in the end – whether it’s turning a dank basement into a fully functioning office, or seeing their dream home constructed, from start to finish. In fact, some of the most impressive projects out there have seen some of the most unlikely spaces turned around – even, quite famously, a London public toilet.

When looking at such projects, it’s difficult to imagine where such things are begun – so if you’re looking to create an amazing space of your own, where exactly do you start? Increasingly, in this day and age, we look for convenience as well as quality, and one company that has just the right idea when it comes to making dreams a reality is design and build specialist, CGT Works.

With a string of impressive projects to its name, including Pucci’s store at Harrods as well as the residences of many a VIP client, the company has been handling renovation projects in the capital for over ten years to date – and with its roots in Italy, each example of its work is testament to an impeccable eye for every aspect of design.

So they have good taste. Hardly surprising, given their line of work. But the edge they have over other designers and contractors is that CGT offers the whole package. From the initial architectural drawings, right through to the construction and interior design, the team work tirelessly to handle each client’s project and to see it through as far as the finished building. It’s a package that is rare to find in the industry, and it’s no surprise that their services are becoming highly sought-after – across London, and further beyond.

It certainly makes the undertaking of a building project a more attractive choice. Whilst giving you every say in exactly how a project progresses, a design and build company of this ilk can take all of the hard work off your hands – and all of the stress, too. Where once, worrying that your architect was communicating sufficiently with your contractor, using a company that can handle it all means that the entire process flows -seamlessly passing from one phase to the next.

Using Building Information Model Technology (BIM) to produce a preconstruction plan and highly accurate projection even before any detailed drawings are completed, budget control, timeline and concept design can all be established early on. From here, it’s all about bringing your vision to life, and the process is collaborative throughout so that you’re always a part of the decision making.

Using Autocad to create technical designs and 3D visualisation as the project evolves, there are never going to be any nasty surprises, either – and you’ll always have the chance to make changes along the way.

And, best of all, the project management services include securing planning permission and listed building consent – some of the biggest obstacles, and often those that put an end to a dream project before it has even begun.

One of CGT’s most recent projects, Redcliffe Square in Kensington and Chelsea, is a shining example of just how well its integrated approach can work – and how a small and unassuming space can be turned into something really quite impressive.

“Our clients were looking for a luxury space within the confines of a small square footage,” says Nicola Cotti, Director at CGT.

“The concept of the project was to create a flexible space – to transform a two bed flat into a home that could incorporate a big and luxurious living room whilst having the capacity to become a dining room/kitchen/bedroom and home office.

“This was created by the use of movable doors/objects and furniture. We installed three x 3.6 metre high sliding doors which separated the kitchen/living room from the bedroom and home office. The bed also doubled as a couch which easily rotates either way. The furniture similarly flips to become a home office. This was all carried out with the idea of giving the space a luxury feel whilst having those key practical elements that can be utilised when needed.

“The small bathroom was made into a feature by creating a tropical cave-like feel – emphasised by criss-crossing green tiles and black sanitary ware. The larger bathroom, meanwhile, was created almost as an art-work, using Bizazza tiles to create a beautiful flower montage.”
