With a vision to create beautiful furniture crafted entirely from natural materials are Maker & Son, a new luxury furniture company that launched last year in West Sussex. Having already established a loyal fanbase including celebrities such as Ellie Goulding, Maker & Son lovingly create furniture designed to last a lifetime whilst making a positive impact, founded by third generation furniture maker Felix Conran and his father Alex Willcock.
With over three decades of experience designing furniture, Maker & Son understand that pieces that are comfortable are key. In a time-poor age where it is often difficult to relax both the body and mind, they endeavour to design furniture that encourages the ultimate in relaxation whilst fitting in with the style and décor of any given interior setting. Handmade to order by their small team of experts, using traditional techniques, each design takes time, paired with unapparelled skills using solid beech frames that are sustainably sourced, expertly jointed and screwed together to provide a backbone to everyday life.
No luxury company is without its bespoke services, and this is something Maker & Son particularly lead with. Specialising in bespoke homeware pieces each made from 100% natural materials, one of Maker & Son’s unique selling points is that they do not have their own physical showroom as such, but instead have created the modern concept of a mobile showroom to travel to customers for them to try out. With comfort the leading concept for each and every design of Maker & Son, their mobile showroom allows easy accessibility for many people to experience their pieces offering an experience of ‘beyond comfort’. Accompanied by their company expert, each and every person looking to invest in a piece will be able to speak with Maker & Son on each and every detail they would like their bespoke design to feature – from the array of colour choices, to the right fabric and even how it will sit within the room.
Crafting their furniture designs to any required size, two designs in particular have been created to what they describe as ‘the comfiest in the world’ are the Song Sofa and Armchair. From L-shaped to super-sized sofas, Maker & Son have also taken arms off certain designs to create a chaise style and also offer modular units for unique configuration. With a recommendation of maintaining their height and depth for the design, they are able to work with any given width. Calculated down to the size of the design, their costs are quoted depending on the brief with a lead time for standard pieces at 4-6 weeks and for bespoke pieces 6-8 weeks.
Ensuring each of their bespoke designs is perfectly suited to the rooms they reside in, Maker & Son are dedicated to maximising the room configuration for each of their clients. From making the best out of smaller spaces, less conventional and odd shaped rooms to working out how to accommodate the needs of the whole family in one living room. Working from either floor plans or images of the room in question, their creative team will advise accordingly with the designs they feel suit best, along with configurations and prices. With over 30 years of furniture design experience, Maker & Son’s expertise today also extends to interior design advice. Ensuring their pieces of furniture look like they were fittingly made for the space, they offer tailored inspiration and advice on colour schemes and fabric choices as part of creating a new look for a space with a genuine passion for design.
Working with traditional methods with natural materials doesn’t mean Maker & Son aren’t able to keep up with modern methods of technology. Available to download for free on both Apple Store and Google Play, their ingenious new app has been launched to help customers visualise their Maker & Son order in their own home with the opportunity to switch colours and play with an array of designs.
Launching last year, in the past 18 months Maker & Son have generated over £3.5 million in sales in the UK and Australia and are now expanding to the US (Tribeca, New York). For more information or for a quotation visit makerandson.com.
