Horse racing is often classed as a pursuit for the rich and is also referred to as the ‘sport of kings’ thanks to its long-standing association with royalty and the upper class. With the likes of Prince William and Princess Kate often spotted in the VIP enclosures at major UK events like Royal Ascot and the Cheltenham Gold Cup, it’s easy to see why the sport continues to uphold a sense of prestige, and guests in attendance are invariably seen turned out in their very best attire in respect of this.

Today’s most elite horse race venues are beautifully designed, with each exuding its own unique charm and sophistication and offering exceptional entertainment along with unrivalled five-star services.

With a long and storied history behind it, horse racing is steeped in tradition, and for those who can’t resist the thrill of risk and reward of a horse race in the most opulent of settings, nothing compares.

The world’s most opulent venues

There are a host of charming and visually stunning horse racing venues to be found across the globe that have become nothing short of iconic amongst enthusiasts of the sport, but many will agree that one of the very finest is located right here on UK soil. Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire is perhaps one of the most historic and attracts an affluent clientele to its Royal Enclosure at the Royal Ascot event each year, with guests paying eye-watering prices to enjoy prime seating, gourmet cuisine and free-flowing champagne whilst they take in the trackside action.

It isn’t the only one worth paying a visit to though, with Churchill Downs – home of the Kentucky Derby in the USA – and the opulent Meydan racecourse in Dubai also worthy of a place on your bucket list. The Piazza del Campo in Siena, Italy, where the iconic Palio race takes place, is also a must, and so too is the spectacular Chantilly Racecourse in France.

Not only do these venues host some of the most famous horse racing events in the world, but many of them have been around for a very long time – the oldest as long as 150 – and thus have a thrilling story to tell.

The bottom line

For those eager to attend one of these sought-after events, booking tickets (including accommodation, if needed) well in advance is essential, and with a wealth of opulent VIP packages to choose from, be sure to take advantage of one for a truly luxurious experience. Be aware that most high-end venues have a strict dress code, so packing your gladrags is also key. There’s nothing like getting dressed up to the nines for a day at the races, and you’re certain to spend the entire event feeling like a million dollars in your finery.
