Summer is a time for refreshing your wardrobe and stocking it with some good quality luxury items to see you through the warmer months in style – and with the temperatures rising, it’s a great opportunity to have some fun with the way you dress and try out some new shapes, materials and prints.
It’s also a time of year to branch out from your usual comfort zone and try something different, and with a wealth of up-and-coming designers disrupting the fashion industry each year with their unique and edgy designs, now is as good a time as any to step away from those tried and trusted wardrobe staples and experiment with something new.
One of our favourites this year has got to be Polish fashion designer Agi Nova – real name, Agata Nowak – who is launching her namesake clothing brand just in time for summer and has created an array of beautiful and flattering pieces featuring a range of colourful prints and pretty florals. A unique collection filled with fun and vibrant garments, it’s everything we love about summer in one range.
From flowy maxi dresses and embroidered tiered skirts, to loose-fitting trousers that are just perfect for a warm day in the office, Agi’s vibrant collection has got all settings covered. Other pieces capture a slightly sexier side of femininity, with a low-cut denim patchwork dress that falls a few inches above the knee making the perfect choice for casual evening drinks, al fresco.
The brand is based in enchanting Toruń, Poland – a walled medieval town where each piece of clothing is ethically made by local seamstresses. Agi’s clothing is made with only the highest-quality, natural fabrics she can find, sourced from Poland and Italy.
Agi keeps a more youthful crowd in mind when designing her clothes and describes her style as “a bit sporty, girlish, and street” – but every piece is impeccably made and exudes a pared-down air of glamour.
All of her pieces are not only comfortable, but also versatile enough to be paired with either sneakers or heels – making it easy to achieve that fine balance between laid-back and luxury.
There is often an air of playfulness in Agi’s designs, and this season’s light denim jacket and skirt, featuring an arty, graffiti-style logo, are both adorned with colourful heart and star shapes that are reminiscent of the doodles we might have drawn in our notebooks as teenagers. Even so, her pieces remain feminine and sophisticated in their own way, whilst making for a slightly more daring departure from the mainstream.
So what it is that inspired Agi to create her exciting new line? “The individuality we all possess, but often find difficult to express in our clothing,” she says.
“I truly believe that every woman is special and worthy of looking great. My fashion highlights your individual beauty and femininity.
“All the clothes in my line are designed by me personally, and every item is made by professional seamstresses in Torun. I believe in keeping production local, ethical and using only the best materials. We all deserve the best!”
Agi has always hade a flair for fashion design, often creating her own unique pieces to wear for herself – but it was the enthusiasm of those around her for her ideas that gave her the push she needed to launch her first collection.
She explains: “I have always liked to design clothes, and used to do it for myself. I received a lot of encouragement from my friends and wider social circle, who all admired my designs. In spring this year, I decided to go public with them, and now, it is my aim to grow my brand to be very successful.”
So, what next for Agi Nova? With the success of her summer line almost guaranteed thanks to its unique look, Agi is already looking ahead to autumn, and in October, she will be showcasing her next collection at Liverpool Fashion Week.
Even so, her fun denim pieces will remain a key feature, and are something she says will be an ongoing staple in her collections.
“In my collections, denim plays a very important role. In my coming autumn collection, I will combine it with patchwork and logos, and the collection will also include sporty clothes like sweater dresses for an easy, day-to-day look.
“In my opinion, every woman deserves to look good. My clothes help them to look feminine and unique.”
Keen to branch out into accessories, too, Agi harbours a burning desire to design her own luxurious bags – which no doubt, will feature the fun and youthful stamp she puts on everything else, whilst using high-quality, luxury materials that are built to last.
If her first collection is anything to go by, Agi has a bright future ahead of her, and we, for one, can’t wait to see what else she has got up her sleeve.
