It’s nearly time for sand between our toes, that tempting smell of BBQs on warm evenings and stocking up on sun cream for weekends spent in the garden or at the park, but what should you be wearing for all this fun? Here are the six must haves for your summer wardrobe:
1. Slip dress
The 90s are back (again) and with them the promise of lust worthy slip dresses. Lightweight, comfortable and flattering for everyone these simple dresses featuring thin straps and light material are perfect for summer days. Expect to enjoy a nod to grunge fashion with bold tartan and floral prints, which should be worn with a pair of Docs to stomp around in and some oversized sunnies.
2. White trainers
Trainers need to be crisp and white this summer, think tennis shoes and classic shapes with a little colour thrown in on the logo – we think adidas is the best option when it comes to these shoes. Pair them with cropped jeans and a relaxed fit t-shirt or a simple skater dress and denim jacket. If you’re feeling bold, they also work with wide leg trousers and a smart sleeveless blouse for summer days in the office – you’ll definitely be comfy running to meetings!
3. Bomber jacket
The ultimate summer cover up, for when the grey clouds ruin that family picnic, a bomber jacket works with most looks, is lightweight and easy to wear. You’ll discover a variety of different stores stocking this style but if you really want to tap into the trend a silk bomber is the only way to go, preferably in a light pink or off white shade.
4. Off the shoulder top
Pick up one of these bad boys with bell sleeves and you’ll be so on trend you won’t even need trousers (please wear trousers when leaving the house), they work great with denim shorts or a mid length A-line skirt for a feminine everyday look. We’re loving the Prairie trend that’s emerged this season, with embroidered flowers and lace featuring heavily on these top designs.
5. Bodysuit
Perfect for pairing with your A-line midi skirt or a pair of cropped jeans, a bodysuit provides a smooth silhouette and prevents you from having to constantly tuck your shirt in all day long. Pick up a backless style for nights dancing under the stars at a festival, a long sleeved body to pair with a high waisted skirt for a summer wedding or a plunging design for that hot date at the weekend. Some people are even picking up fun swimming costumes in bold designs and wearing these as bodies!
6. Ankle bracelet
In another flashback to the 90s, the ankle bracelet is also making a return as a coveted accessory and a must have for your summer wardrobe. Elle have put together a guide to the best anklets to wear this summer, simply snap one on and leave it to do its thing while you enjoy a season in the sun!
When it comes to summer must haves, add these items to your wardrobe to ensure you complement that golden tan with on trend pieces.
