Looking for a straighter smile? Invisalign is your answer

By Caroline Cooper   |

Everyone knows the Hollywood smile – a Julia Roberts-esque grin made of perfectly formed pearly whites. It is captivating, beautifying and youth-enabling, yet sadly, most of us aren’t blessed with such features, but that could be all about to change.

With opportunities for the Hollywood smile now achievable through various different techniques, it is no wonder orthodontists report a 75% increase in adult braces. Whilst many people will be familiar with the steel ‘train track’ braces as teens, those teeth that were once perfectly formed, may have now gone back to their original state. Teeth are said to have a particularly good memory therefore, if you don’t look after them, they have a tendency to go back to where they started.

The good news is treatments have advanced and so have the mould processes too. Thanks to this new and improved technology using an iTero Element scanner, dentists no longer use the invasive clay moulding procedures for mouth impressions, but instead use incredibly accurate 3D digital technology to get a complete layout of the mouth.

Invisalign is a custom set of clear, almost invisible braces that can be easily removed for meals, brushing and special occasions. The bespoke aligners are custom made using the latest 3D printing technology.

In my case, my cosmetic dentist Reading Smiles, is the proud owner of the iTero Element scanner, which enabled me to see a before and after prior to my treatment starting. This is shared with the team at Invisalign who then work with your treatment provider to create your unique plan.

Dr Hanal Nathwani of Reading Smiles is one of the few Invisalign Diamond providers in the UK. In his 15 years’ experience, he has well over 3,000 plus Invisalign cases and over 2,300 smile makeovers. After my initial transformation scan was received, Dr Hanal Nathwani made alterations to my treatment to create a wider arch in my smile, something I’ve always wanted, and fascinatingly the scan also uncovered some underlying problems that I didn’t know even know existed. The scan is amazing to see and takes you through a month by month, tray by tray transformation.

Every plan is unique because, of course, no two people are the same, but in general each aligner is changed every two weeks with each gently moving your teeth incrementally into the desired position. It is important to point out that Invisalign doesn’t just straighten your teeth, it can actually affect your whole face by working on expanding your arch expansion or even softening the look of your nasolabial folds (smile lines).

Invisalign truly is a wonderful invention for those who want a better smile but without invasive wire braces. If you are looking to transform your smile, then head to the Invisalign website for more information.
