Looking good: We talk fashion & style with leading British stylist Roxie Nafousi

By Melanie Kruger   |

The beautiful Roxie Nafousi is a contributor for Marie Claire, a lifestyle blogger and an ambassador for the Mental Health Foundation. She set up her personal styling business RAWAN in 2013 with the main aim: to help women be the best of themselves.

Our style and fashion editor Melanie Kruger had the recent opportunity to sit down with Roxie to talk about everything from her current wardrobe staples to her favourite fashion retailers.

How would you describe your style?
It’s constantly changing but at the moment I love a 90s look during the day: high waisted denim jeans and a logo t shirt. I really just love to be comfortable in what I’m wearing! In the evenings, I love a classic and feminine look. I’ve always been a fan of pencil skirts, over the knee dresses and cute, stand out clutch bags.

Which one item from your wardrobe couldn’t you live without?
My Balmain leather jacket. I’ve had it almost 5 years and it just transforms the most boring outfits into something really cool. A good leather jacket is essential!

What are your current wardrobe staples?
I’m obsessed with these leather-look leggings from New Look at the moment, they fit SO well. Then my parka from Jane & Tash which I actually would be lost without this winter!! Oh and I can’t forget my Dior pumps. I have them in about 6 colours and wear them with almost every evening outfit – they are SO chic and SO comfy I can wear them for HOURS! My favourite at the moment are my baby pink ones as I’m obsessed with pastel colours!

Who inspires your style the most? (celebrity, family member, etc.)
I really love Rosie Huntington Whiteley and Miranda Kerr as they are both effortlessly chic and always well put together without looking too ‘done’. I also love Kendell Jenner and Gigi Hadid – they both have such cool style and they’re always changing it up: grunge girl one day to Parisian glamour the next!

If you had to live with only a capsule wardrobe containing ten key pieces, what would would they be?
Denim High Wasited Jeans, Leather Jacket, Classic White Shirt (tucked into jeans/skirt or tied into a knot for a cropped look), Pencil Skirt, Black well fitted Knee Length dress, perfectly fitted white or grey t shirt, Pastel coloured chunky knit jumper (perfect with jeans or a pencil skirt), camel trench coat, lace blouse, fitted jumpsuit.

Have you had any fashion disasters over the years?
Oh yeah LOADS! Mostly when I tried to be cooler than I am. There’s actually too many times to name haha!

Where do you like to shop?
I love high street stores such as Topshop, Zara, Bershka. For designers I love Saint Laurent bags and Dior shoes, PRADA for both bag and shoes!

What is your favourite trend at the moment?
90s comeback!

How has your style evolved since you started out in the blogging world?
Definitely! I think it’s grown up a bit and I try to think a bit more about putting outfits together rather than just throwing anything on. Although I can still get a bit lazy with it and just go out to meetings in my gym kit – I just love being comfy! I also dress more for my body shape – I’m curvy so I tend to shy away from short dresses and anything A-line!

What is the best piece of fashion advice you have ever been given?
To dress for your body and what brings out the best in YOU, not for what looks good on someone else!
