Taking your make-up off with as much care and precision as when you apply should be an important part of any beauty fan’s daily routine.
Su-Man Hsu, the founder of luxury beauty brand Su-Man Skincare, has put together her top tips on how to properly take off each beauty product at the end of a long day.
Su-Man Skincare was launched in 2011 with a range of luxury skincare products that aim to bring life and energy back to the face whilst considerably improving the skin’s health. The collection is sold in stores including Urban Retreat, Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason and Fenwicks. It is used by celebrities such as Kylie Minogue, Juliette Binoche and Olga Kurylenko.
Su-Man, who has been dubbed the woman with “the wisdom of ten thousand faces”, regularly shares her expert skincare tips and techniques. In this instance, Su-Man claims that whether it’s lipstick, mascara, eye shadow or foundation, each item should be removed using a specific technique. Su- Man explains this technique using the popular Purifying Cleansing Gel-Oil.
She says: “The act of removing your make-up should be given as much thought and care as applying it. Being too vigorous when removing make-up can do more harm then good, often creating more lines and wrinkles.
“These are my tips on how to properly remove your make-up without causing any distress to your skin. Always begin with the smallest areas of your face, like your eyes and lips, as the skin in these areas are the most delicate and require a gentle hand.”
Lipstick
Wet the cotton pads with warm water, squeeze the cleanser on to the pad and spread evenly. Press onto the lips for a few seconds and then with firm strokes, wipe away the lipstick or lip-gloss.
Mascara
Wet the cotton pads with warm water, squeeze the cleanser on to the pad and spread evenly. Fold the cotton pad in half and gently brush over the lashes using an upwards and downwards motion. This ensures you remove any mascara stuck in-between and on the base of your lashes.
Eye make-up
Follow the same procedure with the cotton pads as you would with your mascara. Place the pads firmly on the eyes, and use a gentle vibrating motion to loosen and remove any eye make-up.
Full Face
Distribute a fingertip-sized amount of cleanser into your palm and spread evenly all over your face. Massage the cleanser onto your face and neck using firm circular motions. Don’t forget to pay attention to any makeup that has been trapped in your eyebrows or hairline. Wipe the cleanser off with a damp face cloth or cotton pads. Repeat the process and rinse off with warm water. Pat your skin dry with a dry face cloth.
