We caught up with Laura Hamilton, the leading television presenter and property expert. Laura is currently one of the faces of Channel 4’s A Place in the Sun. She has appeared on Dancing on Ice and The Jump and blogs for Hello Magazine.
My car of choice
I’ve always loved fast cars. When I was 21 years old I owned an electric blue coloured Lotus Elise. It was so low to the ground, it was like a go cart! As fun as it was, it wasn’t exactly practical. I would love a Porsche Taycan – their first electric car. It looks sleek and is better for the environment. I’m pretty sure it’s fast, too!
My favourite holiday destination
I have travelled to so many destinations, it is quite difficult to pick a favourite. However, the Maldives is quite simply paradise on earth. I’ve been five times and it takes my breath away each time I visit. I fell in love with South Africa, too, when I visited there filming. My Dad was born there and I loved getting to see the town he grew up in. A little closer to home, I’m really fond of Mallorca. I love the city of Palma and think the island is beautiful.
My gadget I can’t live without
My iPhone! It’s my portable office, my camera, my computer, my diary, my LIFE basically. I own a coffee shop and deli and despite the fact I usually travel a lot I am heavily involved in the business. I have to order the produce daily, I plan the staff rota and pay all the invoices so I am very much reliant on having a small portable office!
My go to fashion brand
I love to support small brands and businesses. I really love 8thSign. I love small jewellery brands too like Boho Betty and Nancy and Nora.
My airline of choice
Now this is almost impossible to answer. I travel a lot with Easyjet and BA. I have been really impressed with Emirates when I have flown with them, too. I do have a frequent flyer card with BA so I always save my points and use them for upgrades. I also have an Easyjet Plus card which is worth every penny. It gives me access to fast track security, means I can select a seat for free when booking and I get speedy boarding, too.
My favourite watch brand
For my 30th birthday (almost 10 years ago!) my husband bought me a Rolex with an oyster pink face. I absolutely love it. I would never spend a lot of money on an item like that for myself – unless it was a house. Although I have other ‘fashion’ watches and an apple watch for fitness, I pretty much never take my Rolex off.
My favourite restaurant
I have been lucky enough to eat at lots of amazing restaurants all over the world – The Cliff in Barbados being one of them. However, something that I really love doing for a special occasion is having a chef come to the house and make a meal for a small group of friends. We often use Daniel Britten who is a local guy and also took part in MasterChef a few years ago. The service and food is exceptional.
My guilty pleasure
I find it very difficult to switch off and relax so I guess my guilty pleasure has to be going to a spa or having a massage. I love a scented candle and a room filled with scented candles, beautiful flowers and relaxing music is my idea of heaven.
My favourite way to give back
I have loved (over the last 10 months) being able to give back to those in need in my community through ‘Lord Roberts on The Green’, my coffee shop and deli. We turned it back into the village store and have been delivering essentials. We have been doing what we can making up cream tea boxes for the NHS in some of the local hospitals and, although it’s only a small gesture, it has been amazing to do something.
