We caught up with Matt Hodges, one of London’s most exclusive and leading personal trainers. Based at the heart of London’s sophisticated Fitzrovia, Matt welcomes some of the world’s best-known celebrities, VIPs and billionaires into his state-of-the-art and highly exclusive studio – providing a private, chic haven for those striving to look their best.
My car of choice
This would have to be the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport. With the Super Sport you get the atelier who bespoke makes the car to the customer’s choice. I’d choose a matte navy blue colour, with rose gold alloys and custom dark tan suede interior.
My favourite holiday destination
Either Aspen or the Australian outback. I’ve never felt quite so ‘at home’ in Australia. I first went when I was around 15 and remember running down Ayers Rock to the bewilderment of the tourists who were all clinging onto the guide rope like circus tightrope walkers.
My gadget I can’t live without
There are so many things. As boring as it sounds, my necessity is my phone. The luxury is my vintage humidor.
My go to fashion brand
Reiss. When I was modelling back in the day, I would often be sent by my agent to be a fitting model for them. They choose broader, more athletic men, so their clothes often fit better to more muscular physiques. I am a sucker for a good suit and if I don’t buy custom I’ll go to Reiss.
My airline of choice
I don’t have one, they’re all as awful as each other. There is a reason why I feel like this however, which I need to be honest about – I’m petrified of flying!
My favourite watch brand
It used to be Audemars Piguet, but I’m switching tastes to Hublot. Some of their more recent designs are totally outdoing Audemars.
My favourite restaurant
I recently went to Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck in Bray, which was a real experience but, for me, more homely food is where my heart is at. Give me a good country pub any day of the week!
My guilty pleasure
I have so many! Life is about pleasures. I like metal detecting, smoking the occasional cigar, I have a huge whisky collection and I buy trainers like they’re going out of fashion!
My favourite way to give back
It is in my nature to help people, it is why I do what I do. My days are spent being a trainer, a coach, a shoulder to cry on and a de-facto psychotherapist. I donate to numerous charities, including one that is very close to me – Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
Behind Gym Doors is Matt Hodges‘ debut book which gives an insight into life as a celebrity personal trainer. With many tears, tantrums, and diamond-encrusted tiaras thrown in along the way, life on the gym floor isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be. The book, to be released on December 1, will be available to purchase via Amazon and matthodgesauthor.com.
