We caught up with Thái Công, the celebrity Vietnamese-German interior designer.
Thái Công’s interiors can be seen as the epitome of luxury where Western pop culture seamlessly fuses with Asian tradition and European luxury. Yet, each project has a charming quality that makes the spaces liveable, fun, pragmatic, and always sophisticated. He captures moods, emotions and passions and portrays them in his designs.
In his new book, Thái Công – A Passion for Aesthetics (teNeues Publishers), he invites readers to escape into this magical world of high class style, art, architecture, cinema, and fashion.
My car of choice
I love both classic and modern cars. My hobby has been collecting classic cars ever since my youth. Classic cars, like the ones from Mercedes, always make me fall in love. When it comes to modern cars, I love the Porsche 911, a sports car that is also the dream car for many gentlemen, and I am no exception. I take my modern car to work but take my date out in a vintage car on a drive through the city on the weekends.
My favourite travel destination
The destinations I travel to vary each time. Sometimes I prefer to visit a lively city, and other times I want to relax in a quieter and calmer place. If I want to travel to a city, I choose New York City. I feel that it is a city where life is defined by freedom. New York is a city that has beautiful and vibrant places to visit, it is the best when it comes to lifestyle, culture, arts, sports, and more. To relax and recharge, I like to travel to places with a beach, a place that has beautiful scenery, in the midst of mountains. I choose the sea, the sun, I like to sunbathe.
My gadget I can’t live without
A gadget I cannot live without is a watch. I feel uncomfortable when forgetting to put my watch on, therefore, the watch is something I cannot miss when going out.
My go-to fashion brand
I choose fashion that is classy and gives me confidence. Fashion for me must bring a sexy look to the wearer. I like Tom Ford and Hermes, I find those brands high in quality, sexy and they give me confidence.
My airline of choice
Singapore Airlines, a good airline in terms of service. The interior designs and uniforms are also very delicate, elegant, and aesthetically pleasing.
My favourite watch brand
Definitely a Rolex, the watch is classy and suits me. I like simple watches because I wear them and do not follow designs to create a collection.
My favourite restaurant
I like to eat Japanese food, Omakase, it’s delicate, light, high-quality Japanese food. Japanese food is beautifully presented and divided into small pieces, which makes it easy to eat.
My guilty pleasure
I am a perfectionist in all my work and that makes the people around me try hard and put a lot of effort into their work.
My favourite way to give back
I love to help my employees develop their career as well as their mindset and understanding of aesthetics for a better life.
