Experiencing Bali’s epicenter of action and the Montigo Resorts, Seminyak

By Glenn Harris   |

Bali has become a beloved holiday destination and with very good reason. It is an exotic island with perfect weather, beaches, majestic temples and friendly people. Bali is really several destinations in one offering different types of travel experiences. Uluwatu in the south is known for its rocky bluffs, views and laid back vibe; Ubud is known as Bali’s artistic and spiritual center in a jungle setting. But for those looking for excitement and nightlife, Bali’s place to get your party on is Seminyak. It’s that and so much more and the ideal place to stay and play in the center of the action is the  Montigo Resorts, Seminyak.

Seminyak is a place where the night life heats up as the sun goes down. It is action packed with an endless offering of nightclubs, bars, restaurants and bistros and places to see and be seen. There are also some lovely beaches and beach clubs to explore and spend a few hours taking in the sunset or to laze about during the day.

Jalan Petitenget is the main street that runs through the center of Seminyak. There you’ll pass plenty of boutiques, shops and cafes. This is the epicenter of the Seminyak action and where you’ll find the Montigo Resorts, Seminyak. On this main strip there is a lot of hustle and bustle with scooters and traffic and a constant flow of tourists walking to and fro. Strangely enough as soon as you pass the entrance and reception of the resort, guests find themselves in an oasis of calm. The sounds of the streets and city is lost to rustling coconut trees, lush tropical gardens, and water elements. It is peaceful and serene and an ideal place that is close to the action, yet oh so far away.

The resort is exactly what most would look for in an island getaway. Cool brick walkways covered with trellises and palm trees lead to the rooms and suites in colonial style buildings which are spread over the large resort grounds. There are 124 units that range in size from spacious to grand. The suites are generous in size with a lovely outdoor living space complete with dining set and day bed and a private lawn or spacious balcony. Indoors is cool and chic with a calming color palate of the hotel’s signature turquoise along with tropical prints inspired by the gardens and ocean. Rooms feature modern furnishings, their uber comfortable Montigo beds as well as up-to-date electronics and all the amenities necessary for a pampered stay.

Away from the rooms there’s plenty to do on the property. There are three pools with one for adults and one where the littles ones splash about. Nearby is a cool Volkswagen Kombi converted into a poolside café for lunch, morning coffee, or a cocktail. Their third pool is arguably one of the sexiest in Seminyak and is located at the front of the resort and near the action of the street. This long pool is where to go to see and be seen as guests laze about in their designer bathing suits rotating between cooling dips in the pool, suntanning or sipping fruity cocktails under canvas umbrellas. The vibe is sexy chic as lounge music plays while chilled out holiday makers swim up to the pool bar and others take their lunch at the deck table overlooking the pool.

The front area of the hotel is where the action is. That’s also where you’ll find the Montigo Resorts, Seminyak’s 24 hour restaurant, TIIGO. This hip restaurant, bar and lounge  has a wide open facade that faces the street, making it the perfect place to people watch. Inside is a cool vibe with an edgy, contemporary design offering a casual place for on of their legendary cocktails or to grab a bite to eat. For those looking for a bit less action, a separate dining space is there for a more secluded setting. At any time of day there are live cooking stations and the open kitchen where you can see their chefs creating a wide range of tasty dishes. Its an ideal place to try out traditional Balinese dishes as well as sushi, tapas, grilled dishes or continental cuisine.

Many guests and other tourists from the area will meet up at TIIGO for a pre night out dinner or cocktails before having a night on the town. Seminyak’s pulsating nightlife is renowned  as one of the best in Asia where you’ll find hordes of Australians, Europeans and Americans there to party with a purpose. There’s legendary clubs such as La Favela which is a four story massive party complex with separate rooms playing top 40 dance tunes. No need to dress up for this one, leave your Ferragamo’s at home and opt for sandals or sneakers. For a full on night of partying, its best to hit a few hot spots. One that is a bit more refined is the Red Carpet Champagne Bar offering Veuve Cliquot, Moët & Chandon, Dom Pérignon and Bali’s largest offering of champagne. It’s a fun and eccentric place to hang out with a friendly staff of waitresses dressed in bellman and flight attendant costumes serving gourmet bar food as well as a long list of specialty cocktails. Upstairs behind the velvet rope is their dance club with plenty of VIP seating, table service and hot music where the sexy crowd moves to the beats from their international DJs.

There are countless places to party in Seminyak with big crowds, lines, and gnarly twenty something tourists. For a more intimate, yet just as fun experience, head to the newly opened, Who’s Your Daddy. Here the sushi is excellent and pink (from flavored rice) and it’s a great place to bend the elbow with Seminyak’s more exclusive set. This is the anti-mega club experience where on weekends, DJs from Europe spin an eclectic mix of anti-top 40 tunes and their mostly European clientele sip on Aperol spritzes and Negroni cocktails, chit chat and chill out.

Seminyak is known for their mega nightclubs as well as their beach clubs such as Potato Head Beach Club which happens to be just next door to the Montigo Resorts, Seminyak as well as Ku De Ta which is nearby as well.

After all of that partying, most will seek some well-deserved down time at the resort. Beyond a snooze fest, the resort offers another level of rejuvenation in their spa. The resort boasts one of the top destination spas in Seminyak. The Montigo Spa is a large complex with nine treatment rooms, specialty spa journeys, couples treatments as well as Balinese, Thai, and Swedish massages from their  talented staff of therapists. One treatment sure to restore is their signature Montigo Massage that uses acupressure, reflexology and aromatherapy to release tension from sore and worn out bodies with a technique of long stokes and deep muscle kneading.

Seminyak is a great place to stay to have fun in the sun in Bali. There is so much to do during the day or especially when the night goes down in Bali’s party central. A place that close enough to enjoy it all yet a world away in an oasis of calm is the Montigo Resorts, Seminyak.
