When most people think of Middle Eastern holidays, they think of the luxury and glamour of Dubai’s world-famous hotels, designer stores and palm islands.
But take the short trip along the coast and you’ll soon discover another part of the UAE that’s equally as exciting and elaborate.
We’ve teamed up with long-haul travel experts Destination2.co.uk and their seasoned Middle East guide, Chris Blackwell, to find out why you should opt for Ras Al-Khaimah over Dubai.
1. Equally as luxurious
Luxury breaks to Ras Al-Khaimah are often overlooked due to neighbouring Dubai, renowned for the lavish lifestyle and extravagant attractions.
But that’s not to say your trip to Ras Al-Khaimah will be any less spectacular it simply comes down to Ras Al-Khaimah being the lesser known of the two.
You’ll still find a number of fabulous 4 and 5-star hotels throughout the region, including the Hilton Resort & Spa, which boast kids’ clubs, water sports, and a fantastic choice of restaurants and bars.
2. Cultural attractions that reflect the Middle East’s rich history
The United Arab Emirates have changed a lot over the years, especially since the area’s booming oil industry took off.
Dubai is an urban metropolis that’s lined with futuristic skyscrapers and ultra-modern attractions. On the other hand, Ras Al-Khaimah still retains much of its authentic historical charm.
You’ll find a number of spectacular landmarks that reflect a more traditional side of the UAE in Ras Al-Khaimah, including the Dhayah Fort and the Ras Al-Khaimah National Museum.
3. The UAE’s most beautiful beaches are right on your doorstep
The idyllic Persian Gulf is known for its fabulous white sandy beaches and glistening azure waters, all of which provide a beautiful setting for a relaxing day by the sea.
Many of Ras Al-Khamiah’s hotels own a private stretch of on the city’s pearlescent beaches, meaning you’ll have access to a wide-range of facilities, including sun loungers and water sports.
Ras Al-Khaimah’s beaches also benefit from being family-friendly and are generally less overcrowded than other areas.
4. Luxury shopping and traditional souks
The UAE’s love of shopping is no big secret. Fortunately, this isn’t just limited to the mega malls of Dubai; you’ll also find plenty of great places for retail therapy in Ras Al-Khaimah.
On top of this, Ras Al-Khaimah boasts for its traditional markets, where you’re guaranteed to discover many great treasures.
The Kuwaiti Souq and Mi’ereed market are both worth checking out. Here you’ll find everything from charming souvenirs to stunning handmade rugs and jewellery.
5. And if you still fancy visiting Dubai…
Ras Al-Khaimah is just an hour and 20 minutes from Dubai by car. Regular coaches and excursions run to and from the city, and taxis are also frequent.
A trip to Dubai is a must if you want to experience some of the world’s most famous landmarks up close, including the the Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, Wild Wadi Water Park and Dubai Mall.
