In the month of October I was invited to the enchanting Jaisalmer Marriott Resort & Spa much to my delight. I was welcomed by Restaurant Manager Rohit Singh Bhadouria at the airport and after a short drive of about 20 minutes we reached the palatial property. The resort sits in the heart of Jaisalmer, a world heritage city known for its resplendent forts and ornate temples. This contemporary palace style resort is carved out of golden sand stone which gives Jaisalmer, the popular tag of ‘the golden city’.
Amidst the magnificence of exotic palaces and the seemingly endless Great Indian Thar Desert, the resort is a perfect getaway for travellers who want to experience the grandeur of the city while enjoying Marriott’s exemplary hospitality and culinary excellence. With resplendent forts and elaborate havelis in the backdrop, vast sand dunes with beating drums, cavalry on camel back, folk dancers and festivity, the resort also offers an ideal destination to host the quintessential Indian wedding.
As we entered the property, I was accorded a warm welcome by the front office team and it was fascinating to wear the colourful local turban called ‘Paag’. I was escorted to my beautiful suite and was impressed by curated welcome amenities dished up by the Executive Chef Sunil Jajoria. During my entire stay, the talented Chef dished up a variety of local delicacies in the form of amenities for me which were placed in my suite regularly.
The resort is situated just 3.3 km away from the Jaisalmer Railway Station, and Jaisalmer airport at 15km in distance or 20min driving time. The property offers 135 exquisitely designed rooms with 9 suites featuring breathtaking views of the magnificent Jaisalmer Fort and beautiful central oasis.
Each room is equipped with deluxe bedding, marble bathrooms, state-of-the-art luxury amenities and premium satellite channels on the 42-inch LED TV. The resort has comfortable day beds in every room for guests to relax during the day. The resort also offers mobile Check-in/Check-out facilities to ensure that guests have a seamless experience at the resort.
“Jaisalmer Marriott resort and spa is a destination resort with essence of ‘Something for Everyone’. Our Modern palace is operational for three years now and has been pampering travelers from every walk of life. An ideal resort to holiday with family or spend a spacation or organize a social event or meeting, while enjoying the Marriott Hospitality. Jaisalmer is the only city in Rajasthan, which has many things to offer from Heritage (Forts and Hawelies) to Culture (Temples and Rustic Village visits) to Adventure in Sand Dunes.
Our USP at the resort includes highest inventory of rooms in the city, Wyra, the rooftop open restaurant with stunning views of Golden Fort, well-appointed spa managed by Quan, the only hotel in the city with ballroom and dining venues from 2000 Sq.ft to 32,000 Sq.ft; and most importantly international brand standards managed by well-trained associates from all over India,” said General Manager Sridhar Thota.
The resort offers four specialty restaurants, something to please everyone’s palate. The all-day contemporary dining restaurant Jaisalmer Kitchen serves buffet options and an a la carte selection featuring signature local dishes and International cuisine. I enjoyed several delicious meals in this restaurant where the friendly Executive chef created authentic Rajasthani cuisine for me presented beautifully. Dunes Bar is a transitional bar with cozy cabana seating offering fine cocktails and an extensive range of exclusive wines.
A unique new concept called Cocktails on Wheels has recently been introduced where one can try drinks from various regions in Rajasthan, bite sized food was paired with these interesting drinks during my visit. Wyra is an elegant rooftop restaurant and lounge offering succulent grills and live cooking. The Mithai Company is a great place to feast on delicious traditional Indian sweets and savories such as mathris, kachoris, sev, etc, along with a fine selection of artisanal teas and coffees.
Nestled amongst Jaisalmer’s majestic sand dunes, the resort offers a breathtaking setting for a picture perfect wedding. The resort offers 3251 sq. m of outdoor space surrounded by lush green lawns interspersed with sparkling water bodies which can host up to 500 guests, making it the perfect destination for themed weddings and social events.
The resort houses the renowned Quan Spa which offers a perfect blend of modern techniques with traditional therapies to relax and revitalize body and spirit and I spent a lot of time relaxing in this serene spa. I experienced the Signature Thar Massage which uses natural ingredients of the land and is a one-of-its-kind and a must try when in Jaislamer.
The beautiful courtyard comes alive in the evenings when local musicians and dance troops entertain guests with their song and dance performances including a puppet show. During my stay the hotel also organized for me to go sightseeing and visit local attractions such as the Jaisalmer Fort, Gadisar Lake, Patwa Haveli and the Sam Sand Dunes.
The Jaisalmer Marriott Resort & Spa is perfect for a holiday where you can experience the best of Rajasthani hospitality and warmth combined with superior food and service, local performances and sightseeing in the beautiful Golden City of Jaisalmer. Definitely worth several visits!
